Kosovo leaders have condemned the Serbian authorities detaining works of Kosovo artist, Eliza Hoxha, at the at the border crossing point of Merdare saying such actions are “shameful” and “unacceptable”. Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj said Serbia was “ruining that little chance of establishing normal communication with Kosovo, be it through arts as a universal language.” Haradinaj said Kosovo artists and youth are being subjected to strict searches at the border with Serbia whose authorities have banned two pieces of artwork that were scheduled to be exhibited at the annual “Miredita, Dobar Dan” even in Belgrade. President Hashim Thaci said in a Facebook post that arts, culture and sports should know no boundaries “especially when they aim peace and reconciliation”. “This behaviour of Serbia’s authorities is in conflict to the spirit of cooperation that we are building in the region and also in conflict with efforts to set European relations between regional countries,” Thaci said.
