The news website reports that the construction of a wall on the northern side of the bridge over River Iber in Mitrovica has triggered reactions from political parties, especially from the opposition. Vetevendosje Movement representatives said the construction of the wall “will cement Kosovo’s partition”. “Vetevendosje thinks the construction of the wall is unacceptable and it is absurd to see the government keeping silent on the matter,” the party said. Mitrovica South Mayor, Agim Bahtiri, however, told the news website that the construction of the wall is part of an agreement reached between Pristina and Belgrade in the EU-brokered dialogue in Brussels. “I think this is normal, there is nothing wrong about it; it is part of the agreement that was reached,” he said. Bahtiri also said he is inspecting the construction which is expected to end this month. “Inspectors are following every move. I was there yesterday, it doesn’t mean anything. They can say whatever they want but the truth is that there is no room for concern. This agreement was reached earlier, and I hope the construction will be finalized this month,” he added. Asked to comment on statements by representatives of Vetevendosje, with whom Bahtiri’s party is in coalition in Mitrovica, he said that everyone has the right to complain but that the agreement was reached when Isa Mustafa was Prime Minister. “I have nothing against anyone. All political parties have the right to criticize, but the agreement was reached during the Mustafa-led government, and it is being concluded. There is no room for concern and I think that this is a good thing,” Bahtiri said.
