Almost everyone agrees that Kosovo, home to 1.8 million people and one of the highest unemployment rates in Europe, desperately needs more energy. The question is how to generate it without doing more damage to a country already battling terrifying levels of pollution — and facing a tough choice between using the energy sources of the past or betting on those of the future.

PDK: Setting vehicles on fire, an attempt to destabilize the country (Gazeta Express)

The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) issued a press release regarding the setting on fire of official vehicles in Gjilan, Ferizaj and Mitrovice. This party assessed the attacks as an attempt to destabilize Kosovo and cause insecurity among the people of Kosovo. PDK has requested the respective institutions to investigate all the cases and make the perpetrators face justice.

Vetevendosje activist Alket Zeqiri arrested for setting a vehicle on fire (Gazeta Express)

Based on the order of the Pristina Basic Court, the Kosovo Police raided a house today in “Fazli Grajqevci” street in Fushe Kosove/Kosovo Polje, and arrested Alket Zeqiri, under suspicion of setting an official vehicle on fire. “A.Z., male, 26, is a citizen of the Republic of Kosovo, and suspect in a case which took place on 24.02.2016 at around 12:00 hours, at “Sejdi Kryeziu” street in Pristina, where a blue Hyundai vehicle was set on fire and was considerably damaged,” noted Kosovo Police.

Mustafa: Changes in government depending on performance of the ministers (Gazeta Express)

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, said at a press conference after his visit to a factory in Suhareke/Suvareka, that the performance of his ministers will be evaluated, and that changes in the government will commence based on the evaluation. “The other issues of reformatting remain ongoing, because will continuously assess the performance of the government and based on that, we will make changes,” Mustafa said. During the press conference, Mustafa also spoke about success of local companies in export.

Veseli replies to the Constitutional Court: Election of President, in accordance with Constitution (Gazeta Express)

After the request of the Constitutional Court, Kosovo Assembly President, Kadri Veseli, submitted his version of election of the President of Kosovo at the Assembly session of 26 February. In a prolonged replay, Veseli stresses that the Assembly of Kosovo has elected the President in accordance with the Constitution.

AAK welcomes German ambassador’s proposal for crisis resolution (Gazeta Express)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has welcomed the proposal of the German Ambassador to Kosovo Angelika Viets for the creation of a mediating commission that would be led by the president of Kosovo or someone acceptable for all sides in an effort to resolve the current political crisis. The AAK would be willing to agree to such a commission if it determines that this could take Kosovo out of the crisis and towards extraordinary elections.

Valon Murtezaj nominated Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (Gazeta Express)

The Office of the Prime Minister confirmed that Valon Murtezaj has been nominated for the position of Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs. “The decision for Murtezaj’s nomination has already been made and he will start work at the Ministry this week,” according to a statement by the Office of the Prime Minister.

Valon Murtezaj said in several public appearances that he is a university professor in Paris, where he teaches subjects related to diplomacy and negotiation.

Haxhiu to LDK MPs: Do not go to the session (Gazeta Express)

Kosovo Assembly MP from Vetevendosje movement, Albulena Haxhiu, wrote on her Facebook page that “the square of opposition will be filled with the citizens of the Republic.”

Rejection by the opposition inside and by the citizens outside, will prevent Thaci from being elected president. Deputies of the Democratic League of Kosovo: Do not go to the session!” Haxhiu wrote.
