UNDP allocates 37 thousand euro for farmers in Dragash (RTKLive)

Four farmers in the municipality of Dragash are the beneficiaries of 37 thousand euros allocated by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). This grant is allocated to the project funded by the Austrian Development Cooperation "response at the local level regarding the creation of jobs (employment) and Integrated Territorial Development (InTerDev)". Through a press release, UNDP announced that the project InTerDev finalized two activities that serve small farmers and unemployed youth to improve their lifestyle.

Support for women’s projects (Zeri)

Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Memli Krasniqi, met on Monday with representatives of "Women of Krusha" association, with whom he discussed the development projects of the Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development for 2015. Krasniqi informed them for the criteria foreseen in the call for applications for investment grants for all women farmers.

Property soon to be registered in the name of both spouses (Koha)

Under the motto “The right to own property remains important factor on economic empowerment of women”, the Agency for Gender Equality organized a round table on the occasion of International Women's Day. The round table marked the initiating process of drafting Administrative Instruction "Property Registration in the name of both spouses".

Ministry of Trade to support women entrepreneurs (RTKLive)

Kosovo’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Hykmete Bajrami,  met on Wednesday Afёrdita Saraҫini Kelmendi, chairwoman of board of the Women's Economic Chamber of Kosovo (G7). Bajrami informed Kelmendi that the ministry's priority will be support for the private sector development, where a special attention will be paid to strengthening the role of women entrepreneurs, through concrete projects. Bajrami emphasized that Kosovo’s economic development can be generated by strengthening private initiatives, competitions and open trade.

Home medical visits for mothers and children (Kosova Sot)

The Family Medicine Center in Prizren, supported by UNICEF, has begun with home medical visits for mothers and children. The director of the Medical Centre, Mehmedali Gashi, said that medical visits at home aim to improve the health of mothers and children. According to him, the Ministry of Health, and other institutions, NGOs and other partners, supported the development of an inclusive package on home visits for children and mothers, as a strategy for investment in healthy and productive future of all the communities .

Around 1200 women reported domestic violence (Epoka e Re)

The executive director of the Center for Protection of Women and Children in Pristina, Naime Sherifi, told the Anadolu Agency, that the economic dependency factor makes women powerless to be protected from domestic violence. According to her, in the last three years, the number of victims was around 1000 annually, while in 2014 this number has reached 1200 women who reported domestic violence. Sherifi said that in the Safe House in Pristina, last year were housed 470 women, victims of domestic violence.

Kosovo women want 40 percent representation in government (Kosova Sot)

A group of women MPs handed over an amendment for constitutional changes to Kosovo President Atifete Jahjaga, to increase the gender quota for women representation in the government. This amendment anticipates that 40 percent of the cabinet must be composed with women. Jahjaga said that women representation in the government is low and that is necessary to guarantee women’s participation in decision-making. The amendment was signed by 57 MPs from all the political entities, including the minority ones.

EU Office to support women in Mitrovica (Zeri)

The Initiative on Agricultural Development in Kosovo (IADK) has started the implementation of a project supported by the European Union Office in Kosovo, to help widows in Mitrovica, especially those without any financial support. The Executive Director of the IADK, Zenel Bunjaku, said that widows will be trained on how to prepare food, and after that, they will have the opportunity to work in schools in Mitrovica. According to Bunjaku, also pupils from Mitrovica schools will benefit from this project, as they will have fresh meals every day.
