Blast in Swedish town injures daughter of KLA associations’ leader (Koha)

An explosion Tuesday morning in the Swedish town of Helsingborg has injured Ariana Haradinaj, daughter of Nasim Haradinaj, deputy leader of the KLA War Veterans associations. In a statement to KTV, Haradinaj said his daughter was injured in a terrorist attack but did not link it to his activity in Kosovo. “I never received any threats nor did my daughter,” Haradinaj said. More recently, Haradinaj was a target of criticism for his statement that he considered “no big deal” the killing of LDK activists after the conflict in Kosovo.

Only 5 of 71 deputy ministers are women (Koha)

The first meeting Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj had with 71 deputy ministers displayed the fact that the vast majority of these newly-appointed officials are men, Koha reports. It adds that of all 71 deputy ministers only five are women and that while the government has received a lot of complaints for the record number of deputy ministers, not a lot has been spoken about the low number of women represented in the government of Kosovo.

Gjukaj: Citizens did not only pay for electricity in the north but for all Serb-majority areas (Koha)

Director of the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), Arben Gjukaj, told KTV that citizens of Kosovo were not only charged for unpaid electricity in the north but for all areas with Serb majority. Gjukaj said that unpaid bills were sent to both UNMIK and the government of Kosovo. “After independence, one bill went to UNMIK and one to the government of Kosovo. Citizens of Kosovo did not pay only for the north but for all Serb enclaves in Kosovo,” Gjukaj said.

Minister does not rule out electricity price increase (Kosovapress/Koha)

Kosovo’s Minister of Economic Development, Valdrin Lluka, said Kosovo is currently producing enough energy to only cover half of the demand and the rest is being imported. He also did not rule out the possibility of electricity price increasing by almost 19 percent as announced previously by the Energy Regulatory Office. Meanwhile, a protest against increase of energy price has been announced for today in Pristina.

Kosovo citizens have so far €41 million for energy in the north (Koha)

Head of the Energy Regulatory Office, Arsim Janova, reported to the Kosovo Assembly’s committee on human rights on the charging the unpaid electricity bills from the north to the rest of Kosovo consumers. Janova said the decision to suspend this practice pending a court ruling was taken by the board and is in line with the Law on Energy Regulator. He also said that the total amount the rest of Kosovo consumers have paid in the last five years for the unsettled electricity bills in the north reaches €41 million.

Haradinaj: Dialogue makes no sense unless it ends in mutual recognition (Koha)

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, said the continuation of the Pristina-Belgrade dialogue would make no sense it is does not result in mutual recognition. Answering to a question put forth by Vetevendosje MP Albulena Haxhiu on what is his position on the justice agreement reached by the parties in the dialogue, Haradinaj said at the Assembly that the agreement was not perfect but was a step towards stretching the rule of law to the north of Kosovo.

Kosovo prosecutor speaks in Belgrade about missing persons (Koha)

Kosovo prosecutor, Drita Hajdari, spoke at a Belgrade conference about Kosovo’s missing persons and noted that their fate continues to keep many families hostage. “It is a legal obligation and a fundamental human right for families to learn about the fate of their missing members. After the signing of the peace deal, warring parties should have revealed when the missing persons are but did not do so for the lack of political will and because internationals did not put enough pressure on them,” Hajdari said.

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, presented before the Assembly today the government’s programme for the next four years saying it encompasses fields such as the rule of law, economic development and employment, Euro-Atlantic integrations and sectorial development. Haradinaj said the government’s objective is to change the legal framework in the criminal code field and carry out a full review of the rule of law sector.
