Caritas to support RAE communities (RTKLive)

The Swiss Caritas has signed a cooperation agreement with Caritas Kosovo, to support the integration strategy of the Roma, Ashkali and Egyptian communities in Kosovo. The support is based on the beginning of a new phase of the project for the period 2015 – 2017.  "With this agreement we are entering a new phase of the project, which is the continuation of the commitment of Caritas Kosovo towards social inclusion of RAE communities, not only in Prizren, but including our commitment in Gjakova and Mitrovica.

Day of missing persons marked in Kosovo (RTKLive)

The Kosovo Assembly will hold a plenary session today dedicated to the day of missing persons during war, 27 April. According to official figures, there are over 1,600 persons from Kosovo, whose fate remains unresolved. After the session, a memorial dedicated to the missing persons from the 1999 war in Kosovo will be revealed.  The NGO Cries of Mothers, called once again on the Kosovo institutions to do more in resolving the fate of missing persons in Kosovo.

Meucci agrees with expert’s criticism towards EULEX (RTKLive)

The head of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Gabriele Meucci, commenting the report prepared by the independent investigator, Jean Paul Jacquet, who investigated allegations of corruption in EULEX, has stated that he agrees that the mission has not yet achieved its objectives in the fight against corruption. Meucci, in a clarification letter send to media wrote that the mission cannot sit blindfolded towards the criticism that Jacquet wrote in his report.

Grants and support for agricultural development in Gjakova/Djakovica (RTKLive)

Kosovo’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Memli Krasniqi met on Thursday with the Mayor of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari Lila. Krasniqi and Kusari Lila discussed the Program for Agriculture and Rural Development for 2015 and new schemes to support the municipalities throughout Kosovo. Minister Krasniqi announced that the number of applications for development projects in Gjakova/Djakovica region reaches 133 farmers.

Women MPs meet Rapporteur for Kosovo, Ulrike Lunacek (RTKLive)

The Board of Women Caucus hosted a meeting  with Ulrike Lunacek, Member of the European Parliament and Rapporteur for Kosovo. At this meeting it was discussed extensively on the activities of Women Caucus of the Kosovo Assembly, and the challenges faced by women in the protection of their rights wherever they work and operate. Ms Lunacek, in her speech, said that  she appreciates the contribution of women MPs in Kosovo. “Kosovo has good laws, but the question is how to apply them,” Lunacek said.

Three thousand irregular migrants repatriated (RTKLive)

The Department for Citizenship, Asylum and Migration at the Ministry of Internal Affair announced that the number of the people from Kosovo repatriated in the first quarter of this year is many times higher compared to the same period last year. According to the Ministry of Interior, from January to March, around three thousand people were repatriated. The number of asylum seekers from Kosovo in the European Union countries is estimated to be over 50 thousand.

President Jahjaga meets Romanian delegation (RTKLive)

Kosovo’s President, Atifete Jahjaga, on Monday met with Romanian State Senator, Gabriela Cretu, and advisers of the Romanian Prime Minister and Members of Romanian Parliament. Jahjaga briefed the Romanian delegation on the efforts of Kosovo institutions to strengthen democracy and the rule of law, to build a free market economy and to consolidate the presence of Kosovo in the international arena. Jahjaga also spoke about the European perspective and the importance that it carries a unifying agenda for the stability of Kosovo and the entire region.

Women's participation in security institutions, dis-satisfactory (RTKLive)

During the Week of Women activities in Pristina, on Thursday was discussed the topic of inclusion of women in security institutions in Kosovo. The participants concluded that the representation of women in security institutions is not at a satisfactory level. Women are represented in Kosovo Security Force (KSF) with 8.1 per cent and in Kosovo Police (KP) with 11.1 per cent. The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP, Ganimete Musliu, said that women should work together to reach their goals.
