Veseli: Kosovo Assembly will discuss special court on Friday (Lajmi/Kosovapress)

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli told reporters in Pristina today that the Assembly will discuss the constitutional amendments related to the special court on Friday. The Assembly will hold plenary sessions on Thursday and Friday. The special court, which is expected to address war crimes allegations in Kosovo, will be the only topic of Friday’s session. Kosovapress quotes Veseli as saying, “No one is going to threaten Kosovo’s sovereignty. It is important that we maintain our partnership with the international community”.

The Pristina-based Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms (CDHRF) has reacted today against the vandalism against Slovenian businesses in Pristina after the detention of Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) leader Ramush Haradinaj by Slovenian authorities in Ljubljana airport on Wednesday. The CDHRF notes in its reaction that attacks against the IPKO Company and the NLB Bank in Pristina are attacks against the free market economy and against possible future investments.

Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci said in a lecture at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI) that Kosovo needed to diversify its foreign policy and focus not only on increasing the number of recognitions but also its membership in international organisations. Mitrovica Mayor Agim Bahtiri met yesterday the EU office in Pristina’s coordinator for dialogue on the north, Boyd Mckechnie. The two discussed preparations for the meeting of the working group on freedom of movement in Mitrovica that is set to take place on 17 June in Brussels. The Brussels meeting will also be attended by the Mitrovica North Mayor Goran Rakic and will focus on finding concrete solutions to the movement along the main River Iber bridge.

International Committee of the Red Cross to monitor correctional centers in Kosovo (KosovaPress)

Kosovo's Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) today signed a Memorandum of Understanding for access and monitoring of detention centers and correctional centers in Kosovo.

Through this memorandum, the Red Cross is allowed easy access to these centers and will carry out monitoring in order to assess the conditions offered to individuals deprived of their liberty and respect for human rights in accordance with the highest standards of human rights.

Shots fired at news website offices in the north (Kosovapress)

Unidentified persons have fired shots at the offices of the Kossev news website in the northern part of Mitrovica but no one was injured in the attack, sources said for Kosovapress. The attack is reported to have happened early this morning and was confirmed by Kosovo Police deputy director for the north, Besim Hoti. Hoti said the staff noticed the bullet holes in the windows of the offices when they showed up for work today. Editor of the news website, Tatjana Lazarevic, said they did not receive any threats and that she believed they enjoy the trust and respect of the local residents.
