UNMIK between the hammer and the anvil of the Security Council (RTS)

While Serbia expects the members of the UN Security Council to influence the repeal of the Law on Trepča, member countries that have recognized independence of Kosovo believe that the Council meetings on Kosovo should reduce, and they believe also that the scope of the UNMIK mission should be reduced. For representatives of the countries that do not recognize Kosovo, UNMIK has an important role, and the Resolution 1244 for them remains the only valid basic document for solving the problems in Kosovo.

FM reacts to claim of Belgrade's "colonial tendencies" (media)

Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic has rejected claims of the Kosovo Ambassador to the U.S. Vlora Citaku about Belgrade's "colonial tendencies toward Pristina."

Speaking at the end of the UN Security Council session on Kosovo, Dacic said that "we are not colonizers and will not allow to be spoken about in that way in the UN Security Council."

Security Council session of the United Nations, on which will be presented a regular three-month report of the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Kosovo, will be held on 16 November.

This is what Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told the Council late on Thursday European time, as it convened to consider UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's latest report on the work of the UN mission, UNMIK, in Kosovo.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic on Wednesday met with Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Foreign Minister Anifah Aman - whose country presides over the UN SC - to discuss Thursday's SC meeting on Kosovo, as well as ways to improve Serbian-Malaysian relations.

Meetings with officials of countries presiding over the UN SC commonly take place ahead of regular sessions on Kosovo, Dacic noted after the meeting in New York.

Dačić to attend UNSC meeting on Kosovo (media)

Serbian First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ivica Dačić will on August 25 attend a UN Security Council session in New York.

The Council will meet to discuss a regular report on the work of the UN mission in Kosovo, UNMIK, filed by the UN secretary-general, and covering the period between April 16 and July 1.

The United Nations Security Council on 25 August will discuss the quarterly report of the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, on the developments in Kosovo. In his report, Ban expressed concern regarding the Kosovo – Serbia relations.  The report, among other things, shows the concern over the stagnation of the integration process, but also the crisis in Kosovo's institutions, as a result of the demarcation process with Montenegro.

“Approval of Serbia for the admission of the self-proclaimed Kosovo in the UN is important, because Serbia is the country of origin, and as such has the right to veto any violent seizure and usurpation of part of its territory,” said a former Serbian diplomat Vladislav Jovanović. “Even if, hypothetically, Russia and China as permanent members of the UN Security Council agree that Kosovo become a member of the UN, the Council will have to propose it to the General Assembly.
