The United Nations Committee on Enforced Disappearances told Serbia that it was still failing to meet its international commitment to resolve the fate of missing persons from the 1990s wars.

The UN committee admonished Belgrade for not doing enough to uphold the rights of people who disappeared and their relatives, who it said “are still waiting for justice and reparations for the war crimes and crimes against humanity during the wars of the 1990s”.

The United Nations Security Council will discuss today during a morning session in New York the quarterly report of the United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon, on the developments in Kosovo. In his report, he expressed concern regarding the emigration of the population and hailed constitution of the Assembly and the government after a six-months’ vacuum and stalemate.

"The essential objective" of the latest developments in Kosovo is for Serbs to leave "the negotiations and local institutions," says Milivoje Mihajlovic.

"Pristina does not want agreement. The aim of Albanian extremists is for Serbs leave the Kosovo government and for that to be an excuse to continue on the path they took so far," said the director of the Serbian Government Office of Media Relations.

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said in a report on Kosovo that after the constitution of the government and Parliament should be established a special court for war crimes in Kosovo. "I call on political leaders from Kosovo to double the efforts and strengthen the broad public understanding and consensus on this issue, considering its importance for the future of Kosovo," reads the report. 

“The Government of Kosovo has not changed the decision on the ownership of Trepca. Trepca is one hundred per cent owned by Kosovo, but the question which is under consideration relates to the model of the management of this property and future private investments. Currently, Trepca is managed through the Kosovo Privatization Agency, in a process that has been declared legal, during UNMIK's mandate,” told Petrit Selimi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kosovo.

BELGRADE - Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic received a farewell visit from Peter Due, representative of the UN Secretary General and head of the UN Office in Belgrade, the Serbian government's media relations office said in a release.

Serbia highly appreciates the role of the United Nations and has full confidence in the world organization, and it therefore wants UNMIK to play a greater role in Kosovo-Metohija, Prime Minister Vucic said.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic conferred with Head of the UN Office in Belgrade Peter Due in Belgrade on Tuesday, who commended Serbia's participation in the UN peacekeeping missions.

Due pointed to the fact that Serbia is among seven leading European contributors to the UN military and police forces worldwide, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released in a statement.

Dacic thanked Due, who came on a farewell visit, for the cooperation to date, and underlined the importance that Serbia attaches to the UN presence in Kosovo-Metohija.

Leader of Civic Initiative SDP Oliver Ivanovic evaluated as a positive news initiative of the Serbian president Tomislav Nikolic to present a proposal for the Kosovo issue. The discussion on the proposal will keep public attention on the issue of Kosovo and will draw the attention of the international community, who believe that Kosovo is not an important issue to the Serbs. 

The Kosovo Football Federation (KFF) is expected to become a member of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) very soon through a UN resolution, an unnamed KFF official told the newspaper Sport Plus. “A resolution has been prepared at the United Nations which says that neither Serbia nor any other country should prevent Kosovo sports teams from gaining membership in international arenas”, the source said, adding that this will then enable Kosovo to join UEFA and subsequently FIFA.

Six months and a day after Kosovo’s general election, the country finally has a government. But it is a government of strange bedfellows that faces daunting challenges. The new administration approved by parliament on Tuesday is headed by incoming prime minister Isa Mustafa , with his predecessor and fierce rival Hashim Thaci as his deputy and foreign minister.

Yet, while that may sound like a recipe for instability, the division of power is more likely to mean business as usual for Kosovo, both domestically and internationally.
