Forced to choose between Kosovo and EU, Serbians pick Kosovo (BETA, B92)

According to a new survey, a huge majority of Serbia's citizens would pick Kosovo if they had to choose between Kosovo and the EU.

The choice in question refers to "accepting Kosovo's independence as a condition for EU membership" - and as many 81 percent of respondents in the poll, conducted by the Institute for European Affairs NGO and Ninamedia, said they would not.

11 percent would "accept the offer," according to the results.

A group of non-governmental organizations from northern Kosovo in the strongest terms condemned yesterday excessive use of force by the Kosovo special police unit against citizens, participants in a roundtable and journalists reporting on the event, Serbian media reported.

Mogherini to visit Belgrade urgently (RTS)

According to the Serbian national broadcaster, EU High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy, Federica Mogherini would arrive to Belgrade this afternoon.

She is scheduled to meet the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and the topic would be continuation of the Belgrade-Pristina agreement.

Serbian Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija Director, announced today at a press conference that an EU representative would arrive to Belgrade, RTS reported.

 

Dacic to meet ambassadors, representatives of EU, UN, NATO (Tanjug, B92)

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic, on behalf of the Serbian Government, would meet today ambassadors accredited in Serbia concerning yesterday’s incidents in Kosovo and Metohija, Serbian media reported.

He would also meet the representatives of the international organizations in Serbia, including the EU, UN, OSCE, NATO and the Office of the EU High Representative for Security and Foreign Policy.

As the Foreign Ministry announced the meeting would start at midday.

 

Vucic and Thaci about legally binding agreement (RTV, Tanjug)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic is supposed to meet with Kosovo President Hashim Thaci in Brussels today, Serbian media reported. Vucic and Thaci should discuss the general situation in Belgrade-Pristina relations, implementation of existing agreements and exchange stances on the new phase of a dialogue on comprehensive normalization of relations.

Vucic has deadline till June to present Kosovo plan (Danas)

According to diplomatic sources, the West awaits results from today’s Vucic-Thaci meeting in Brussels, under the auspices of the EU High Representative Federica Mogherini, Danas daily writes today.

“Although there was no progress during the last round of technical talks regarding ZSO, it is possible that Vucic and Thaci would finally agree to establish a working group that would deal with this matter, however chances for reaching such agreement are rather slim,” Danas continues referring to its sources.

Serbia, Kosovo Leaders to Rekindle Stalled Talks (Balkan Insight)

The presidents of Kosovo and Serbia are to restart the stalled negotiation process between the two governments in Brussels on Friday, almost seven months after they last met.

Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told RTS he expects nothing spectacular from today’s meeting in Brussels. He also pointed out Serbia will never accept unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.

Speaking for the RTS news edition, Dacic said there are many fake news related to Kosovo lately, and one can read some spectacular information every day, however “famous” Thursday when it was announced that somebody from Germany would bring a proposal or ultimatum has also passed.

Over 5,000 Kosovars applied for asylum in the EU during 2017 (Prishtina Insight)

The number of Kosovars seeking asylum decreased last year, similarly to other countries in the region, but Albania continues to be a concern with over 20,000 applicants in the past year.

There were 5,310 first-time asylum seekers from Kosovo in the EU during 2017, according to new data published by Eurostat, the EU statistics agency.

DSS: "Both Kosovo and EU" policy is failure (FoNet, RTS)

Leader of the opposition Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS), Milos Jovanovic told Serbian media the Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic sent from New York “a clear confession” that the policy “both Kosovo and the EU has faced a complete failure.”

“This irrational Kosovo policy that he hastily implements, launched in 2008 by Democratic Party (DS), President of the Republic quite accurately called “stupid and irresponsible,” Jovanovic said in a written statement.
