Special Prosecution files indictment against Lutfi Haziri (Lajmi.net)

The Special Prosecution of Kosovo has filed indictment for Lutfi Haziri, mayor of Gjilan. According to the indictment, Haziri is suspected to have abused with his official authority and to have exceeded his competencies, with the intention of profiting for himself and other individuals, by violating the rights of the other participants at public auctions. The Prosecutor of this case has requested from the court to proclaim the defendant guilty of committing crime and to sentence him according to the law.

Kosovo Police arrested today six Vetëvendosje activists for possessing arms in their houses. The Spokesperson of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK,) Muharrem Nitaj said that they do not possess information on what happened and added that it is very difficult for them to make an assessment regarding the arrests.

Selimi: I offered resignation from the position of Deputy Minister (Lajmi.net)

Former Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Petrit Selimi, has expressed his revolt regarding the government decision to dismiss him from the position of the national coordinator of the Millennium Challenges Corporation, considering it as unjustifiable and illegal. He said that he has offered his resignation from the position of the Deputy Foreign Minister in order to avoid conflict of interest. He believes that today’s decision will be annulled.

 Vetëvendosje confirms attack on Hyseni’s vehicle (Lajmi.net)

Vetëvendosje movement has confirmed that the action of attacking the official vehicle of the Minister of Interior, Skender Hyseni, was organized by its activists.

A press release issued by this party writes that the action was undertaken to object deporting of its activists from Kosovo. Vetëvendosje appealed to Hyseni to immediately stop these actions.

Thaçi believes on unification of government and opposition after 3 August (Lajmi.net)

The President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaçi, expressed conviction that the debate on demarcation expected to be held on 3 August, will unify the government and opposition, which currently hold different positions with regards to the borderline between Kosovo and Montenegro.

He told the media after the meeting with the head of Kosovo’s Olympic Committee, Besim Hasani,  that daily politics should be left aside and that state interests should be a priority.

 The government of Kosovo has conditioned establishment of the Association/Community of Serb-majority Municipalities with removal of the barricade over the Mitrovica bridge and Serbia’s unblocking of international telephone code for Kosovo. Furthermore, Faton Abdullahu, adviser to the Prime Minister of Kosovo, said that with the current stance, Serbia is risking continuance of the dialogue. According to him, normalization of the relations between Kosovo and Serbia strengthens Kosovo’s towards European integration.

 Xhavit Haliti, MP from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), proposed for the next meeting of the Commission for European Integrations to invite the Government Commission for the border demarcation with Montenegro in order to be informed on the manner that this commission functioned.

Thaçi: Border-demarcation issue, a done deal (Lajmi.net)

Kosovo’s President, Hashim Thaçi, said today that he will travel to Montenegro on Saturday to participate in the ceremony of the 10th anniversary of Montenegro’s independence. He said that he will not discuss other matters with Montenegro leaders. According to him, the issue of border-demarcation with Montenegro is finalized and signed by both countries.

Police arrests a Vetëvendosje activist on EULEX case (Lajmi.net)

Kosovo Police has arrested today Vetëvendosje activist, Blerim Maqestena. According to Vetëvendosje, KP is seeking to arrest many other activists regarding Vetëvendosje’s action against EULEX in 2009. “Re-actualization of this case and many procedural and legal violations, proved that this is a political set-up process with the aim of political persecution of opposition activists”, notes a press release issued by Vetëvendosje. This party requests from the government and Kosovo Police to urgently give up the political arrests and detentions.
