Serbs block road in north Kosovo, walk out of government (SunHerald)

Kosovo Serbs have set up a road block in northern Kosovo, and their representatives walked out of the Kosovo government in response to the arrest and expulsion of a senior Serbian government official.

Politicians representing Kosovo's Serb minority met Tuesday with Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade, saying they will no longer support the Kosovo government.

A doctor in northern Kosovo says 32 people have been injured, including five seriously, during clashes with Kosovo police during the arrest of a senior Serbian government official.

Milan Ivanovic said Monday the injured have been treated in a local hospital in the divided town of Mitrovica and discharged.

UNMIK chief Zahir Tanin assessed last night that yesterday's developments in Kosovo were unacceptable and has urged the authorities in Belgrade and Pristina to avoid provocations and take the steps necessary to preserve the peace and security of citizens, reported Serbian media.

He said in a UNMIK statement that it was necessary that all interested avoid any rhetoric or measures that could escalate the situation further.

Ambassador of Serbia to UNESCO Darko Tanaskovic said that Pristina, due to changed international circumstances today, would have much less chance of joining that UN organization compared to 2015, when its application for membership was rejected.

Vecernje Novosti write today that Serbian Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic told TV Prva that Kosovo has no chance to become a member of the UNESCO, and that an increasing number of countries are considering withdrawing recognition.
