Abbot Sava Janjic warns of possible Serbs' migration from Kosovo caused by the idea of demarcation (TV Hram, RFE, KIM radio)
Abbot of the Visoki Decani monastery Sava Janjic told the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) TV Hram that due to some political solutions mentioned, it may happen that the Serbian people disappear from Kosovo, citing the idea of demarcation.
"Today we are facing a particularly great temptation, because with certain solutions that are sought on a political plan, it can happen that our people completely leave this region, or more than ever before in history," said Abbot Sava.
Janjic pointed out that the question was what such solutions would mean for the SPC holy sites, because when it comes to the "demarcation of the two nations," it implies that "where the one lives there is no other, and where the other lives there is no the first''.
Abbot Sava stressed that Serbs and Albanians were "historically connected in many ways" and that they also had Christian connections in the earlier period, but even today.
"But today in the ideology prevailing in this region, there is a huge degree of intolerance towards our people and the holy sites, which are seen as a danger for the establishment of a new, cultural and political identity," said Janjic.
According to him, what the Serbian people and the Church were facing today in Kosovo was something very specific and "perhaps more dangerous" than it was in some of the earlier historical periods.
"That's why, we as the Church, as a nation, as a clergy, monasticism, with our bishop, sent an appeal. Because of solutions such as these, that can have far-reaching and dangerous consequences," said Abbot Sava Janjic, recalling the appeal sent by SPC representatives this year.
"So, it is not something related to politics, even less for political parties," he stressed, adding that the Church was the one that "connects and unites."
