AAK chairmanship deals final blow to coalition bloc?! (Gazeta Blic)

It seems that the chairmanship of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) has dealt the final blow to the coalition bloc consisting of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the AAK, the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) and the Vetevendosje Movement. The AAK issued a press release after the meeting saying that the coalition bloc would fall apart if Ramush Haradinaj is not supported as candidate for the post of Prime Minister. “The 10 June agreement cannot be held hostage by unilateral actions of any member of the coalition.

Mounting pressure on PDK (Gazeta Blic)

Leader of Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and outgoing Prime Minister, Hashim Thaci, had this morning separate meetings with the Germany’s Foreign Ministry director for south-east Europe, Ernst Reichel, the US ambassador, Tracey Ann Jacobson, and President, Atifete Jahjaga. According to lajmi.net, this round of intensive meetings is expected to very soon produce concrete results regarding the need to establish new institutions.

The trio blocking the state and leaving no solution but taking to the streets (Gazeta Blic)

It seems the political situation in Kosovo has no solution, remarks in an opinion piece editor-in-chief of the Gazeta Blic news website, Adrian Collaku. He says that the “unprecedented” blockade by the leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hashim Thaci, the chairperson of the Kosovo Assembly session, Flora Brovina, and the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, seems to leave no other option but to take to the streets.

Cliff surprised why there is no Assembly session today (Gazeta Blic)

British Ambassador to Kosovo, Ian Cliff, said that he does not know why Kosovo MPs are not in an Assembly session today to elect the speaker and its deputies. Speaking at a roundtable organised by BIRN on the implementation of Kosovo-Serbia agreements, Cliff noted that now that the post-election coalition bloc has given up the post of the speaker, there is no reason why election of Assembly leadership should be postponed. “I don’t know why the parliament has not convened today. I know they have a proposal for the speaker”, he added.

Berat Buzhala leaves PDK (gazetablic)

Berat Buzhala, former deputy of the Assembly of Kosovo and member of the Steering Committee of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK,) has resigned today from this position. In his notification, Buzhala expressed special appreciation for Skenderaj/Srbica mayor, Sami Lushtaku. According to him Lushtaku is being unfairly tortured for war crimes. “While the party to which he belongs, has done little or nothing to help enlightening of the truth,” assessed Buzhala.

Edi Rama from Presevo to Pristina (Gazeta Blic)

Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, is expected to arrive in Pristina for dinner following the end of his visit to Preshevo today. Rama will travel by car and will enter Kosovo through the border crossing at Dheu i Bardhe. It is not known at what time he will arrive in Pristina but Kosovo Police will escort the Albanian delegation. A group of citizens are planning to welcome Rama at the entrance of the city of Gjilan/Gnjilane in sign of appreciation for his stance on Kosovo during visit to Serbia.

Government is not a rehabilitation house for politicians (gazetablic)

Petrit Musolli considers that the idea of the political compromise that would enable creation of a co-governance between PDK and coalition block, exceeds every limit of absurdity. He considers that this is impossible for the political, judicial and executive functioning of Kosovo. “Based on the constitution, minority parties represented at the Assembly should also be part of the government and if a coalition between PDK and coalition block is added to this, than this means that the entire Assembly will move to the Government.

Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has begun preparations for new elections despite the post-election coalition having withdrawn claims on the Assembly speaker’s post. A senior PDK official said that the party MPs will not take part in an Assembly session without an agreement on the government first. “PDK will not call a constitutive session. If the Bloc does, it realistically commits a constitutional violation”, the PDK unnamed official said. “We are also entitled to the Government. We will not go to the Assembly without an agreement. We are preparing for new elections”, the source added.

D-Day today (Gazeta Blic)

Today is the deadline which internationals in general and Americans in particular have given to political leaders in Kosovo to resolve the five-month long stalemate. Yesterday, leaders of political parties – Thaci on one hand, and Mustafa, Kurti, Haradinaj, and Limaj on the other – got caught off-guard by the sharp statement of the US ambassador Tracey Ann Jacobson during a public debate. Apart from labeling corruption as being widespread in political parties, Jacobson also spoke about the political crisis.

US Ambassador to party leaders: "Don’t screw this up” (Gazeta Express)

The American Ambassador in Pristina, Tracey Ann Jacobson, had a message for party leaders, in a meeting with them. In Albanian, she told them not to screw up. “My message to the politicians has been clear. In fact I can even say it in Albanian: Mos e dhij punën.” Ambassador Jacobson was speaking at the end of the conference organized by FOL, a local NGO. She said that Kosovo leaders have a tradition of corruption. As an example, she referred to Fatmir Limaj and Isa Mustafa.
