Mayor of North Mitrovica and President of the Serbian list Goran Rakic met yesterday Head of the European Union Election Observation Mission Alojz Peterle, reports Kontakt plus radio.
Head of EU Monitoring Mission Alojz Peterle says for the KIM radio that the support of the Serbian List to its opponent in Klokot in local elections was an unusual event that could cause technical problems.
Chief of the EU Election Observation Mission, Alojz Peterle, said in a press conference today that Sunday’s local elections in Kosovo took place in a peaceful atmosphere and were free of major incidents. Some of the recurring problems however include outdated voters’ lists which continue to have names of deceased people.

The Chief Observer, Mr Alojz Peterle, Member of the European Parliament, presented today the preliminary findings of the European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) on the 22 October Municipal and Mayoral Elections in Kosovo.
The current voting turnout in Kosovo's local elections runs by the rules, said the Head of the EU Monitoring Mission Alojz Peterle, during his visit to polling station in Gračanica.
"I want the whole day to pass in a positive and peaceful atmosphere, that people have the opportunity to express their political will," said Peterle to KIM radio.
Head of the EU Election Observation Mission, Alojz Peterle, presented today the final report on parliamentary elections that took place in Kosovo on 11 June. The report contains 26 recommendations to local institutions aimed at improving the election process in the future. Peterle said political will is required to address problems with voter intimidation in areas inhabited by the Serb community. He also confirmed that the EU would deploy 100 observers for Kosovo local elections set to take on 22 October.
The EU observers said in a press conference today that 11 June elections in Kosovo were generally peaceful. Head of the observers’ team, Alojz Peterle, however noted that a number of problems were present in these elections, namely inaccurate lists of voters, family voting, an increased presence of political party observers, voting of diaspora members, as well as voter intimidation in the north of Kosovo.
President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, expressed concern over reports of voter intimidation in the northern part of Kosovo in a meeting he had today with the chief observer of the EU Election Observation Mission in Kosovo, Alojz Peterle.
