The climate has changed in Europe, the situation in the world has never been this complicated, not even before the First World War, says Aleksandar Vucic.

The Serbian president in this way commented on rigid Dutch and French stance regarding EU candidate countries opening new accession negotiation chapters in June, and Serbia's position and chances in that context.

Church shouldn't be making key political decisions – Vucic (B92, BETA)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday that he "does not think that key political decisions should be made by the Church."

Vucic also rejected the assessment that the state behaves as if the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) was "guilty for the issue of Kosovo and Metohija."

"The Church should not make key political decisions, and it certainly has the right to express its opinion," the president said when asked to comment on daily Blic reporting that "the state blames only the Church for Kosovo."

The existential journey that has taken Aleksandar Vučić to this point has been a long one. As a young man, the current president of Serbia was an ultra-nationalist of passionate rhetoric, and later he served as information minister under the dictator Slobodan Milosevic. Since then, Vučić has morphed into a fervent supporter of the European Union, and his mission now is to achieve membership for his country.

Milic: West to think about division of Kosovo (Tanjug, Radio kontakt plus)

The western international community should think about division of Kosovo as least bad solution, treating it as a unique case, Centre for Euro-Atlantic Studies (CEAS) Director, Jelena Milic said, Serbian media reported.

Milic told Tanjug news agency if the West is that much afraid of Russian influence, then unresolved Belgrade-Pristina issue “is one of the great channels of influence Russia could use.”

She also added, she expected that once Serbia signed Brussels agreement, EU and NATO members state that have not recognized Kosovo, would do so, however it did not happen.

Vucic met with European Parliament chief Tajani, EU leaders in Sofia (TV N1, Tanjug, B92)

Agreement on Serbia’s accession to the European Union by 2025 could be reached, European Parliament President Antonio Tajani is quoted as saying on Thursday at the EU – Western Balkans Summit in Sofia.

A press release from the Serbian president’s cabinet said that Tajani told President Aleksandar Vucic that the date set for possible accession in the EU Strategy for the Western Balkans is possible.

“I am optimistic about your membership,” Tajani is quoted as saying.

Milos Jovanovic: If this continues, Nis would become Albanian (BETA, B92)

Leader of Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Milos Jovanovic told BETA news agency, Serbian Government has rejected a proposal in 2007 similar to that of a legally binding agreement that is being offered to Aleksandar Vucic now.

Jovanovic assessed if Vucic does what he says he would do then it would be an “act of a high treason.”

“It looks like if one man is Messiah or given by God to resolve that issue. We must not give legal cover up to secession, but to re-affirm international law,” DSS leader said.

"Wave of Serb nationalism possible without fair solution" (Tanjug, Rheinische Post, B92)

Aleksandar Vucic has warned that, unless a solution acceptable to the majority, there could be a new wave of Serb nationalism.

In an interview for the German daily Rheinische Post, the Serbian president stressed that Serbia is in favor of a fair compromise in resolving the Kosovo issue.

When the interviewer assessed that Serbia is "avoiding to recognize the independence of its former province" and when asked whether this price should be paid for the EU, he said it was "inconceivable that Serbia, in the solution of the conflict, will be left empty-handed in the end."

There has been an increasing number of allegations in the media recently that Serbia had been presented with a plan for Kosovo, either verbally or in writing.

Each of them, although in different ways, suggests that Serbia on the road to membership in the European Union should agree to recognize Kosovo, or at least accept that Kosovo be given a chair in the United Nations.

West gives Vucic plan for Kosovo - "and if he refuses..." (Blic, Tanjug, B92)

The United States and Western countries have submitted a plan to solve the Kosovo problem to Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, writes daily Blic.

The paper says that the plan is "better for Serbia than all of the previous ones, but still unacceptable to Vucic."

"The United States and Western countries have submitted their principles, but for us it is insufficiently good," an unnamed source "familiar with the details of the proposal" has been quoted as saying.

Vucic: Depleted uranium – crime without precedent (Tanjug, B92)

Serbia would seriously investigate the consequences of NATO bombardment using depleted uranium, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told Tanjug news agency.

Vucic who attended the opening of an oncology ward, said it was a crime without precedent. He added, he heard from the medics there is an increased number of children suffering from malign diseases.
