The recently elected president of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said in an interview for Tribuna Channel that he would not return to the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) after conclusion of his mandate as president. He added that his return would not be healthy for democracy. According to him, it would not be good to return from the position of president to the party or to create a new one. “Return to the party, establishment of a new party or return at an executive level, are closed processes for me,” Thaci said.

A synagogue for the Jewish community is expected to begin construction soon in the municipality of Pristina. Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti made the announcement at the meeting of the Community Safety Council. He said the construction will be supported by the US.

Kosovo Assembly Speaker Kadri Veseli said today that the President of Kosovo will be elected in a couple of days, not wanting to give a specific date if this will be done before or after the protest of 17 February. Veseli said the entire process will be carried out in accordance with the law and the Constitution of Kosovo.

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, declared today that Kosovo needs a solution as soon as possible to overcome the current crisis. He added that a political agreement should be reached before the election of the President of Kosovo. “An agreement must be reached between political parties in Kosovo and it must happen before 17 February. With regards to the protest organized for 17 February, we distance ourselves from any violence that may occur. We are against violence,” Haradinaj said.

The Director for Kosovo at the Government of Serbia, Marko Djuric, told Serbian media that the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa is misinterpreting the result of the most recent round of talks between Pristina and Belgrade, especially regarding the statute of the Association/Community for Serb-majority Municipalities.

“For the benefit of your country and population, I ask the opposition to avoid violence and engage in a constructive manner on the debate within the Assembly of Kosovo,” was the message of the EU Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood policy, Johannes Hahn, to the Kosovo MPs from the coalition government and opposition parties, members of the Committee for European integration, that he met on Tuesday in Brussels.
