Haradinaj: Kosovo damaged by the 2015 demarcation agreement (Koha)

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, said the report of the commission on border demarcation with Montenegro is “credible” and prepared by professionals. In a Facebook post, Haradinaj said the report confirms the view that Kosovo loses territory to Montenegro through the current border demarcation agreement.

Report: Kosovo has high level of inactive women in labour market (Kallxo/Koha)

A recent report published by the Democracy for Development (D4D) think tank has found that Kosovo has the highest percentage of inactive women in the labour market compared to countries in the region. D4D director, Shpend Emini, said the report sheds light into reasons why 80 percent of women in Kosovo don’t seek employment. He said that there should be conditions in place to encourage women to apply for work.

UK Minister says KSF has achieved high standards (Koha)

President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, met today the UK’s Minister of Armed Force, Mark Lancaster, and thanked him for his country's continuous support to Kosovo in its efforts to join international organisations and increase the number of recognitions. Thaci also spoke about the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) and its transformation into armed forces.  Minister Lancaster, who previously served in Kosovo as part of KFOR peacekeeping troops, said he was impressed with progress in Kosovo.

Haradinaj-Mogherini press conference gets cancelled (RTK/Koha/RFE)

The media report that a scheduled joint press conference between Prime Minister of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, and the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini, got cancelled at the last minute. While no official explanation behind the decision was made available, agenda issues are being mentioned as reason.

EULEX judge resigns citing corruption inside the mission (Koha/Klan Kosova)

Koha quotes reports from the French paper Le Monde saying that a British judge working for the EU rule of law mission in Kosovo (EULEX) has resigned his post citing corruption. “In recent weeks I have reported of several cases of corruption inside the mission. In particular, I have raised the issue of my e-mail being hacked by another EULEX judge. I have asked the British Foreign Office and the EU to send the case to the police. Both refused to support me,” judge Malcolm Simmons is quoted to have said. “EULEX is not a mission to promote rule of law.

EU: An independent judge is looking into allegations against EULEX (Koha)

Maja Kocijancic, spokesperson for the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini, said that both EU and EULEX have a zero tolerance policy regarding allegations of misconduct by all the mission’s staff. She said allegations are being investigated at a disciplinary board. “Allegations are being investigated by an independent judge and some of the findings have been admitted to the disciplinary board and I wish to emphasise that all procedures set out in the code have been strictly followed.

Dugolli: We oppose court’s decision in favour of Orthodox Church (Koha)

Bujar Dugolli, dean of Philological Faculty of University of Pristina, said they consider the decision of the Appeals Court to uphold a previous ruling giving the Orthodox Church ownership over a plot of land within the university campus to be “shameful” and “unjust”. Dugolli said the UP’s opposition to the court ruling is not an attempt at interfering in the work of the judiciary or at undermining the right to religion to any community in Kosovo.

KSF promotes members of non-majority communities (RTK/Koha)

Three members of the Serb community have been promoted in rank with the Kosovo Security Force (KSF). On the occasion, President of Kosovo, Hashim Thaci, said KSF has professionally and successfully carried out all tasks and has become the most trusted security institution in Kosovo. He said KSF is ready to take on new responsibilities and contribute to world peace.

Kosovo institutions reconfirm commitment to EU integration (Koha)

In a meeting with the head of the EU Office in Kosovo and Special Representative Nataliya Apostolova, Kosovo’s Minister for European Integration Dhurata Hoxha formally submitted Kosovo’s Country Report. Hoxha emphasized the importance of the report as a key instrument through which the EU can measure progress made by Kosovo institutions since the last report in 2016. Hoxha also spoke of the commitment of Kosovo institutions to push forward the European agenda.

 

Minister: We will reexamine Kosovo’s presence in CEFTA (Koha)

Kosovo’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Bajram Hasani, said to the members of the Kosovo Assembly’s committee on economic development that Kosovo should be represented as a country in the meetings of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) and no longer through UNMIK. “We will review the position on whether to pull out from CEFTA,” Hasani said.
