Ahmeti leaves open possible legalization of church at university campus (Koha)

The Serb Orthodox church built in the 1990s on the Pristina University (UP) campus during Slobodan Milosevic’s regime will undergo a process after which it may be considered a legal construction. Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti said this during a meeting he had on Thursday with UP Rector Anton Berishaj. “In the next six months, we will identify all illegal constructions in Pristina. The application period for all these constructions will run from January 2015 until June 2015.

Opposition leaders divided over dialogue with Belgrade (Koha)

The paper reports on page two that Isa Mustafa, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Albin Kurti, leader of the Vetevendosje Movement, and Fatmir Limaj, leader of the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), met on Thursday at AAK headquarters to discuss dialogue with Belgrade. No agreement was reached.

Excavations at two more Raska sites, 400 bodies believed to be buried (Koha)

The paper reports on page two that there are another two sites near the first location in Rudnica, Raska, which will be excavated soon. According to Kosovo authorities, the bodies of around 400 Albanians are believed to be buried in the three locations; meanwhile Serbian authorities have said that there are 300 bodies. Prenk Gjetaj, chairman of the Kosovo government’s missing persons committee, said excavations at the other two sites would commence only after work is concluded at the first site.

Barricade in Mitrovica reinstated (Koha)

A few minutes ago, a group of around 200 Serbs unloaded a truckload of concrete on the River Iber/Ibar bridge. Koha Ditore’s reporter at the site said the move has now blocked the free movement of vehicles. The group is reported to be currently planting fir trees on top of these concrete containers, and this is all reportedly being done at the initiative of Mitrovica North Mayor Goran Rakic.

Blomeyer and Haradinaj discuss LDK-AAK-Nisma coalition (Koha)

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), met today with German Ambassador to Kosovo, Peter Blomeyer. The AAK issued a press release after the meeting saying that Haradinaj and Blomeyer discussed the 8 June national elections and the agreement between the AAK, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) for a coalition government.

Municipality and UNICEF with a joint programme for children (Koha)

Municipality of Gjakova/Djakovica and UNICEF singed on Tuesday a memorandum of understanding for joint implementation of “Gjakova Fit for Children” initiative. The MoU was signed by Mayor Mimoza Kusari-Lila and head of UNICEF Kosovo Office Laila Omar Gad.

Kusari- Lila said that she is happy the municipality of Gjakova is the first to begin the UNICEF project. “As a mayor, as a woman and a mother, I am committed to ensure the lives of children in the Municipality of Gjakova is of a better level and I am very pleased we have teamed up with a partner like UNICEF”, said Kusari-Lila.

Political analyst Halil Matoshi writes today about the recent assassination of Elvis Pista, candidate of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) for Parliament. “The killing of a citizen in his birthplace while he was in the company of relatives and friends might not have anything to do with politics, but in the context created in Kosovo, the lack of security and the seizure of security structures by segments of clandestine parapolitics, gives political connotations to the assassination of the PDK candidate.

Both coalitions promise to continue dialogue in Brussels (Koha)

The paper reports on the front page that both coalitions trying to form the next government of Kosovo have given guarantees that they will continue dialogue with Belgrade in Brussels. For the time being, only the Vetevendosje movement is opposing the talks. In fact, the suspension of talks was one of the conditions set by Vetevendosje in exchange for its support for the opposition coalition. But senior Western officials are insisting that the dialogue must not stop.

Kosovo must overcome hell (Koha Ditore)

Publicist Enver Robelli argues in his opinion piece that Kosovo badly needs a different government. “The first capital task of responsible politicians in Kosovo, if there are any left in this mafia system, is to make the Republic functional and to save the state. Success can be achieved only if international circumstances are taken into consideration and the fact that Kosovo is no longer in the focus of world politics.
