Déjà vu (Kosova Sot)

In its front-page editorial, the paper writes that the battle for power is coming at a high cost for Kosovo. While certain politicians claim that there is no crisis and the current situation is normal for a democratic country, the consequences of not forming new institutions will be serious for all sectors.  The decision of the Constitutional Court that was intended to unblock the situation had an opposite effect and only solidified the positions of the parties while the president’s intervention is not expected to result in any breakthrough, writes the paper.

The “Guardian” (Kosova Sot)

In its front-page editorial, the paper writes about the resignation of the US judge from the Constitutional Court of Kosovo saying that the move has led to many debates over the future of the institution in question. Although the Court announced that the work will continue as usual, there are doubts about its capacity and legitimacy in issuing decisions. President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, has extended the mandate of international judges in the Constitutional Court but now that the US judge is gone, there are only two international judges remaining.

After IBM, demarcation (Kosova Sot)

The front-page editorial of this daily stresses that signing of the agreement for the construction of permanent facilities for Integrated Border Management by the delegations from Pristina and Belgrade yesterday in Brussels, represents good news at the time of the political blockade and stagnation of the dialogue with Serbia.  After this step, Kosovo should request demarcation of the border with Serbia, immediately after the establishment of the new institutions and start of the new discussions with Serbia.

The Berlin Summit (Kosova Sot)

The paper’s front-page editorial notes that the Berlin Summit has strengthened Kosovo’s hope for a clear European future. “However, there is a list of requirements that must be met on the long path toward the European Union. Reforms, rule of law, dialogue, good neighborly relations, respect for human rights, are all tasks that every country needs to fulfill before it can join the European family.

Make your move, President! (Kosova Sot)

The paper’s front-page editorial suggests that in the current circumstances where the positions of political parties are clear, the President of Kosovo, in line with the Constitution, must summon parliamentary parties to a roundtable. “Despite her weaknesses, President Atifete Jahjaga must find the strength to encourage dialogue and find a compromise solution. So far, the President has only watched and except for one question to the Court about the candidate for prime minister, she has not made any concrete initiative.

Messages from the north (Kosova Sot)

The paper’s front-page editorial notes that Thaci’s government managed to sign the agreement for normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, but the part about the judiciary was not finalized due to Belgrade’s tendency to create an ethnic division among Kosovo courts. “In the north, extremist individuals and groups have not stopped their activities and this can be clearly seen in the case of messages against EULEX.

No agreement yet on mortal remains (Kosova Sot)

No agreement yet has been reached between Kosovo and Serbia about the handover of mortal remains found in the territory of Serbia. This could keep hostage also the handover of missing persons to their families. Prenk Gjetaj, head of the government commission for the missing, says that Kosovar side does not recognize the existence of Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, also UNMIK does not recognize it, between which existed the handover agreement for mortal remains. From other side Serb party does not recognize subjectivity of Kosovo and it is being worked on a new agreement.

The paper’s front-page editorial notes that so far Kosovo politicians have proved that their primary concern is not the well-being of the people but rather their own. “It is enough to look into laws and regulations that determine benefits for officials, government members, members of parliament, members of boards, heads of agencies, and realize that they enjoy excessive privileges. A former member of parliament should not be paid four times higher than the average salary at a time when one third of the population lives in deep poverty.

Justice for the victims of rape (Kosova Sot)

The front page editorial of this daily claims that the result of the collected signatures for the petition with the motto “We demand international justice for the raped women during the last war in Kosovo,” is another evidence that Serbian forces committed genocide in Kosovo. “This petition has become the voice of those women, who were the main victims during the war for freedom and independence.

Waiting for justice (Kosova Sot)

The front-page editorial of this daily claims that Kosovo officials never avoided justice. Kosovo Parliament voted for establishment of the Special Court, Kosovo politicians have always acted with maturity towards international justice while former KLA leaders, currently active politicians, faced the Hague Tribunal or justice in Kosovo, some even twice. None of them avoided justice. Kosovo should clear any suspicion or accusation while crimes and perpetrators should face justice, no matter who they are.
