Osmani: Why is UNMIK exercising competencies in Kosovo when we have EULEX (media)

Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Vjosa Osmani asked during today’s session of the Kosovo Assembly why UNMIK is issuing international arrest warrants on Kosovo’s behalf given that EULEX operates in Kosovo. “Yesterday we saw media reports that UNMIK has issued 36 international arrest warrants on behalf of the Republic of Kosovo. The spokesman of this mission [UNMIK] confirmed this saying that the arrest warrants are valid and that they were issued by the INTERPOL liaison office within UNMIK.

However, she said a solution can be found without outside interference. Lunacek also said in addition to opposition’s act, also the government is not much interested to calm the situation.

Deda and Osmani call on political leaders to consider their plan (Koha)

"I'm not sure if the PDK is making serious efforts to convince MPs to vote in favor of special court, however, it remains to be seen whether we will have any success in achieving the necessary votes. This must be a result of the MPs’ free will and not the result of any pressure or threat,” Osmani said.

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Vjosa Osmani said today that Kosovo’s authorities must establish the special court otherwise it will be done by the United Nations Security Council. Osmani argues that if the UN establishes the court this would send Kosovo back to the pre-independence period. She also called on the MPs to vote in favor of the court in order to prevent a worst-case scenario. “The United Nations have already established special courts, in the cases of Rwanda and Sierra Leone,” she said.
