Statement by Ambassador Apostolova on the elections in four northern municipalities in Kosovo (EU Office)

"Transparent, inclusive and credible elections offering a meaningful choice of candidates are the cornerstone of democracy.

The EU expects all stakeholders involved in the upcoming extraordinary mayoral elections in four municipalities in northern Kosovo to respect the integrity of the electoral process.

The EU underlines the importance of following up and implementing the EU election observation recommendations from previous elections. The work should be conducted in line with the recent agreement between all political parties in the Assembly."

A deputy minister’s vehicle torched in Zubin Potok (KoSSev, Kontakt plus radio, RTK2, KIM radio)

A vehicle belonging to the Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Welfare in the Kosovo government and member of the Serbian lIst, Milos Perovic was torched early this morning in the center of Zubin Potok.

Kosovo Police spokesperson for the Region North lieutenant Branislav Radovic told KoSSev that the vehicle was set on fire early in the morning at 02:42h in the center of Zubin Potok.

He added that it is a black Volkswagen Passat vehicle with Kragujevac license plates.

President Vucic warns that Pristina wants to move against Serbs (RTS, B92)

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic has told public broadcaster RTS that the Kosovo authorities want to arrest 26 police officers from northern Kosovo, and another 15 people. According to him, the excuse for the arrests would be that they had participated "in corruption, and the like." Vucic also told RTS that "the vicious circle in Kosovo has not been closed."

CEC rejected the candidacy of the Serbian List representatives (Serbian media)

Central Election Commission confirmed the candidacies of representatives of the Democratic Party of Kosovo and the Self-Determination Movement, but not the representatives of the Serbian List, reports Serbian media.

According to RTS, members of the Election Commission from the Self-Determination Movement abstained during the voting and thus prevented the acceptance of the Serbian List candidate in this decision-making circle.

Ivica Dacic said that it is expected that at the upcoming meeting in Berlin, probably would be additional pressure on Belgrade and Pristina to continue the dialogue.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia told Radio Television of Serbia (RTS) that Pristina must abolish the tariffs for this to happen.

"There are additional pressures on Serbia in order to appease Pristina to suspend the tariffs, " Dacic said.

Still no candidates for mayors in northern Kosovo (Radio kontakt plus)

Three days have left until the application deadline for the mayoral candidates in the four northern municipalities. The Central Election Commission said yesterday no political entity applied for the mayoral elections in Mitrovica North, Zvecan, Zubin Potok and Leposavic municipalities, Radio kontakt plus reported.
