Kosovo’s European Integration Minister, Bekim Collaku, said that the implementation of the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) which starts today, is very important for Kosovo because it will strengthen the political stability, rule of law, international and regional cooperation, sustainable economy market and gradual alignment with European standards in all areas. He also added that the SAA despite the benefits, brings also many new obligations for Kosovo.

The Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) senior member, Bilall Sherifi, today while commenting the statements made by Kosovo Assembly Deputy Speaker Xhavit Haliti who said soon will be launched discussions with the opposition on overcoming the crisis, said his party is willing to discuss only about setting the date for early elections.

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) MP, Ali Berisha, said today that the AAK will only return to Assembly to vote for the dissolution of the current Assembly.  He also added that the three opposition parties have not yet set a date for the next anti-government protest.

The news site quotes Burim Ramadani, a security expert, saying that the low level of people's trust in the judiciary is no excuse for the recent attacks against courts and state vehicles in Kosovo. “Public polls in the last couple of years have shown that people have a low level of trust in the judiciary. The judiciary in general is one of the less-developed sectors in Kosovo. An independent judiciary is only an objective and one that is very difficult to achieve.

Security analyst, Naim Maloku, said Kosovo authorities are powerless in securing the release of the Kosovo Security Force (KSF) Ministry’s senior official, Gafurr Dugolli, arrested by the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) police on an arrest warrant issued by Serbia. This, according to Maloku, is due to the fact that Kosovo is not a member of Interpol. All Kosovo authorities can do, said Maloku, is to plead to FYROM not to extradite Dugolli to Serbia which wants him on war crimes charges.

The news site conducted an interview with Latif Gashi, former Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP and former KLA commander for the Llapi region, before Gashi went to prison today to serve the remainder of his sentence. Gashi told the news site that he is carrying out an obligation in accordance with the law. He also said that "the justice of UNMIK and EULEX have violated every international convention during the Llapi Group trial".

Vetevendosje MP Aida Derguti told a press conference in Pristina today that everyone is witnessing violations by police officers in the Kosovo Assembly and especially the attack on Vetevendosje MP Albulena Haxhiu. “Violence against members of parliament constitutes an unprecedented violation of competencies. The presence of police officers and the expulsion of MPs are illegitimate and no measure was taken against such actions. Neither the Speaker of Parliament nor the presidency is authorized to order such actions against the MPs,” Derguti said.

Vetevendosje deputy leader Driton Caushi has condemned the setting on fire of the car owned by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) parliamentary group chief Ismet Beqiri. “Such acts are deplorable and we call on institutions to act and not leave room for anyone’s labeling or smearing,” Caushi wrote on his Facebook account. He further commented on a statement by publicist Halil Matoshi who seemed to suggest Vetevendosje is responsible for the attack.

Vetevendosje MP Ilir Deda said that Hashim Thaci’s election to the post of Kosovo president has only deepened the current political crisis in Kosovo. He said Thaci’s election will be brought before the Constitutional Court. “Let’s wait and see how this case goes and what political consequences it will produce. Nevertheless, it is clear that the most non-unifying and divisive man in Kosovo politics is at the head of the state,” said Deda.

Kosovo Assembly Deputy Speaker Xhavit Haliti said today the Assembly is ready for the election of the president of Kosovo. He also said he expects the Serbian List MPs to attend the Assembly session and vote for the new president. “Everything in terms of technical, administrative and legal aspects is ready. I expect the Serbian List MPs to be at the Assembly and vote for the president. Regarding the conditions that they may have, I haven’t heard anything about that,” Haliti said.
