Mimoza Kusari-Lila, mayor of the Gjakova municipality, in an interview for the news website, denied rumours that the new political party, which is expected to be formed this month, will serve as a satellite for the bigger political parties in Kosovo. Kusari-Lila said the new party will be a model for the bigger parties. “Personally I could have joined any of the current parties but I have seen that a new alternative is needed to advance democracy and well-being in Kosovo. By no means will we serve as a satellite for someone else,” she said.

Mimoza Kusari-Lila, the Mayor of Gjakova/Djakovica municipality, wrote on her Facebook account today about the announced protest by Gjakova residents against a visit by Serb pilgrims to the city on Orthodox Christmas. Kusari-Lila argued that the right to protest is equal to the right for freedom of movement. “Gjakova has paid a high cost for all processes in Kosovo, but we need to gradually resort to normality. It is essential to continue to search and identify missing persons and to bring to justice those responsible for these crimes.

Kosovo Police confirmed the arrest of a person in connection to the assassination plot against Gjakova/Djakovica Mayor Mimoza Kusari-Lila has been arrested. According to Gazeta Express, the person arrested works in one of the Gjakova/Djakovica municipality branch offices in the village of Bishtazhin and is a member of the Kosovo Albanian Demo Christian Party.

Kosovo’s Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, Memli Krasniqi met on Thursday with the Mayor of Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari Lila. Krasniqi and Kusari Lila discussed the Program for Agriculture and Rural Development for 2015 and new schemes to support the municipalities throughout Kosovo. Minister Krasniqi announced that the number of applications for development projects in Gjakova/Djakovica region reaches 133 farmers.

Agim Bahtiri, the Mayor of Mitrovica municipality and member of the New Kosovo Alliance (AKR) told Gazeta Express that he is talking with senior members of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) but that he has yet to decide if he will join this party. The AKR is undergoing internal elections and it is not known if Behxhet Pacolli will remain party leader of if he will be replaced by Mimoza Kusari-Lila, current deputy party leader and Mayor of Gjakova municipality.

Mayor of Gjakovica/Gjakova, Mimoza Kusari-Lila should apologize to displaced citizens of Djakovica/Djakova who were stoned.
