Kosovo signs Stabilization/Association Agreement with EU (all media)

Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Federica Mogherini today in Strasbourg signed the Stabilization/Association Agreement (SAA) between Kosovo and the EU. Mustafa, after signing the accord said that this is one of the most important days for Kosovo. “Today, my country officially entered into contractual relations with the European Union. This agreement confirms Kosovo’s path towards the EU.

Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hashim Thaci said that the signing of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement is the most important step Kosovo is making towards EU membership. “Signing of the SAA is proof of the success the state of Kosovo has made and of our commitment to European values. This contractual agreement contains mutual obligations: commitment of Kosovo for reforms and commitment of the EU to assist us much more in this process, until the fulfillment of European perspective,” Thaci wrote on his Facebook profile.

Kosovo's Minister of European Integration Bekim Collaku in an op-ed published in the paper announces that Kosovo will officially sign the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) on 27 October in Strasbourg. Collaku says this represents a historic moment for Kosovo and a turning point in relations with European Union which will now be advanced to a contractual level.

EU Council approves SAA for Kosovo (Koha)

The Council of the European Union today approved the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) between Kosovo and the European Union.  The approval of the SAA opens way for the signing of the SAA on 27 October in Strasbourg.  The SAA foresees the establishment of contractual relations between Kosovo and the EU and represents the first formal step towards the full membership in the EU. Kosovo European Integration Minister, Bekim Collaku, said that the approval of the SAA by the EU Council is a historic moment for Kosovo.

Tahiri: SAA to be signed on 27 October (Koha)

Kosovo’s Minister without portfolio, Edita Tahiri, confirmed that the Political Committee of the EU ambassadors today took a decision to support the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) for Kosovo. "The signing of the SAA is scheduled for 27 October,” Tahiri said. "It is important that the reforms that are required for a country in order to sign the SAA were already met. This is a great success for Kosovo in the Euro-Atlantic integration process,” she added.  Kosovo has completed negotiations with the EU in July 2014.

Hahn: Use of violence to express disagreements is unacceptable (Lajmi)

The European Union Commissioner Johannes Hahn met today with Kosovo’s Minister for European Integration Bekim Collaku. Commenting on the recent developments in Kosovo, Hahn said it was normal for people to have disagreements but that it is categorically unacceptable to express disagreements through violence. “This is unacceptable in democracy. It is completely normal and fair to have different opinions, but not to practice violence. Such methods belong to the past,” he said.

The government of Kosovo in April 2015 issued a decision on the preparation of a National Programme for the Adoption of the Acquis (NPAA), in accordance with the obligations arising from the Stabilization and Association Agreement (SAA) between Kosovo and the European Union.The government has set the NPAA as the main national strategic document for the implementation of the European agenda. Kosovo’s Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, said today at the fifth meeting of the dialogue on the Stabilization/Association Agreement (SAA) that the SAA is the foundation of Kosovo’s path toward European Union integration, economic development, the rule of law and poverty alleviation. Mustafa said that public administration reforms are among the priorities of the Kosovo government and that the latter is also drafting a national strategy for economic development.

Kosovo’s Minister of European Integration, Bekim Collaku, met today with the Council of Europe Head of Office in Pristina, Isabelle Servoz Gallucci, and informed her that the Kosovo government was making all necessary preparations to apply for membership of the Council of Europe. “I also notified Gallucci about our two priorities in the European agenda: the visa liberalization process and the signing of the Stabilization/Association Agreement.

Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister, Hashim Thaci has welcomed the adoption of the Stabilisation and Association Agreement (SAA) by the European Commission on Thursday. "I welcome the news of the approval of the SAA by the European Commission, which is now sent to the EU member states who will take the final decision on the signing of the SAA with Kosovo," Thaci wrote in his Facebook page. "The next step is to as soon as possible to sign this document, which would formalize and strengthen the relationship between Kosovo and the EU.
