Serbian president Aleksandar Vucic confirmed in an official press release that he met with Kosovo president Hashim Thaci on Friday in Vienna.
President Aleksandar Vucic met on Thursday in Belgrade with EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, reports Belgrade based B92.
Vucic thanked Hahn for his dedication to the process of enlargement, and said several important tasks were ahead of Serbia.
The prefix of Kosovo +383 can be used from today, and it will save millions to Kosovo and Vala operator. “The today’s day is only the beginning of the implementation of the new prefix, while we can tell you that by the end of the year, the +381 prefix for Kosovo telecom will not exist. With the new prefix, all illegal operators will vanish,” said the director of Kosovo Telecom, Agron Mustafa. “We have decided today to launch the state prefix which will be used for landline and mobile services. From today, we have the possibility to replace it step by step.
European Commissioner Johannes Hahn says that "must not be endangered what has already been achieved in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina," and that “must be looking forward, not backward."
Serbia has made "major steps toward its strategic goal of EU membership by opening four very significant chapters."
This is according to EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn, who also noted that "strengthening of the rule of law remained the main challenge," Tanjug reported.
The inability of the ruling coalition to conclude issues such as the border demarcation with Montenegro – a requirement for visa liberalisation – and delays in meeting certain obligations from dialogue with Serbia and the inability to form the Armed Forces could take Kosovo to early elections next spring. Kosovo Prime Minister, Isa Mustafa, who is also the leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo, is opposing the idea of early elections.
The EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations, Johannes Hahn, during a meeting of the Foreign Commission of the European Parliament today said that Pristina has taken some important steps towards visa liberalisation. However, Hahn noted that there are two criteria which require more effort. According to him, the first one is to overcome the strong political tension and second, strengthening the rule of law and democracy.
The European Union is considering an option to accelerate the talks between Belgrade and Pristina. In the case of changing the format of the dialogue, there will be no technical dialogue and all will fall under the "roof" of Johannes Hahn.
The European commissioner for neighborhood policy and enlargement, Johannes Hahn, who is visiting Belgrade on Sept. 9, will convey to the Serbian officials "the EU's strong support to the reform program and the process of European integration of Serbia."
