In June 2016, the EU extended the mandate of the Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX) until June 2018. While the fate of the mission after that date is still uncertain, the coming end of the current mandate provides an excellent opportunity to take stock of a decade long and over a billion € worth of EU investment in Kosovo’s rule of law.

Serbia ‘Staged Unfair Trials of Kosovo Albanians’: Report (Balkan Insight)

Serbian courts staged almost 2,000 unfair trials of Kosovo Albanians from 1998 to 2000, violating their rights and using discredited techniques to convict them, claimed a report by the Humanitarian Law Centre.

Serbian courts unfairly tried 1,874 Kosovo Albanians from 1998 to 2000, many of them being defendants who were transferred to prisons in Serbia after the Kosovo war ended in June 1999, said the report launched on Tuesday in Belgrade by the Humanitarian Law Centre.

Indictment filed for Aggravated Murder of two UNMIK former officials (Koha.net)

Today, 21 July 2017, an international prosecutor of the Special Prosecution of Kosovo, has filed charges at the Department for Serious Crimes of the Basic Court in Pristina, against four defendants accused for aggravated murder of two UNMIK Officers and the attempted murder of two other UNMIK Officers occurred on 23 March 2004.

The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, said during his speech at Colmar Court, prior to the decision for his release on bail, that Serbia’s accusations are political.

“These accusations come from Serbia, they are simply political. What you are doing here, is abuse of the human rights,” Haradinaj said to the judges in French.

Kosovo requests from FYROM paperwork to investigate Kumanovo case (Kallxo.com)

The Special Prosecution of Kosovo is investigating “Kumanovo” case, however it is waiting for the paperwork of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) authorities in order to proceed with further investigation.

The case has been under investigation by the prosecutor of the Special Prosecution Ali Rexha, for two years now. “I am waiting for the paperwork which concerns the investigation that I have requested from FYROM,” Rexha said.

Minister of Justice expected to dismiss managerial staff of the Prizren Detention Center (Klan Kosova)

The minister of Justice, Dhurata Hoxha is expected to dismiss the managerial staff of the Detention Center in Prizren.

Sources of Klan Kosova said that this is expected to happen soon. The decision will be based on the findings of the Inspectorate of the Ministry of Justice who drafted a report on Astrit Dehari’s death at this detention center.

Limaj: There is no witness against me (Kosovapress)

The leader of the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) Fatmir Limaj, has spoken about the charges raised against him for war crimes. He clarified that there are 13 witnesses who describe the event and circumstances. “There is not a single witness against me … but none of the evidence is against me, this is the truth. Once again: A headline that intends to create an untrue impression. It is not the first time.

Sabri Hilmi Kelmendi arrested in Serbia, suspected for war crimes (Koha)

Hilmi Kelmendi, 36 years old, from Gjakova, was arrested on Friday by the Serbian authorities. He is suspected for war crimes committed in Kosovo.

Kelmendi was coming for holidays from Germany, where he has been living during the last twelve years.

He was stopped between Friday and Saturday for allegedly war crimes during 1998-99.

Kelmendi’s family confirmed the news for KTV.

Nehat Thaçi rejects charges in Belgrade (Koha)

The Director of Kosovo Police for Mitrovica region, Nehat Thaçi (40 years old), rejected accusations of the Serbian Prosecution for organized crime and for being responsible for expelling a Serb family.

The Prosecution in Belgrade accused Thaçi to have expelled Milivojević family on 1 July 1999, near Lipjan/Ljipljane. He said that at that day he was in Fushë Kosovë/ Kosovo Polje.
