Denial of the translation into the Serbian language during the assembly session represents a serious violation of the Constitution and the Law on the Use of Languages in Kosovo, while at the same time is affecting the work of the media and the public information, it was concluded at a panel discussion held today in Pristina organized by NGO Aktiv, reports KIM radio.

Member of the Self-Determination and member of the Legislative Committee Sami Kurteshi thinks that this is a political problem.

The Pristina University with the seat in Mitrovica North was, is and will be part of the educational system of the Republic of Serbia, and there is no compromise about it, said Rade Grbic, Rector of the University.

says that none of the Serbian List MPs will vote on a law that would allow the
inclusion of that university into the Kosovo education system.

Pristina University with a
temporary headquarters in Mitrovica North was and will be in the Serbian
education system, says Director of the Office for KiM, Marko Djuric, reports
Radio television of Serbia (RTS) quoting the Office for KiM website.

"Keep your hands away
from our university, it cannot be kidnapped because knowledge is acquired on
it!'' said Djuric.

The draft of the Kosovo Law on Higher Education classifies the University of North Mitrovica as a public Kosovo institution of higher education. The votes of at least four deputies representing the Serb community in the Kosovo Assembly are required in order for this law to be adopted. This draft, which was proposed in November of last year, was discussed in early March in the assembly education committee in Pristina, in which Srpska Lista MP, Verica Ceranic is also a member.

Based on the Law on the Use of Languages, Albanian and Serbian have equal status in Kosovo institutions. However, in practice very often this law is not applied, reports Gracanica based portal gracanicaonline.info.

The journalists who follow the work of the Assembly are faced with a big problem because they do not have a translation if there are no Serb deputies in the room.

According to the Law on Use of Languages, Serbian and Albanian are the official languages in Kosovo. Radio kontakt plus reported its interlocutors consider this law as good, however the same cannot be said for its implementation.

Journalist and Voice of America correspondent Budimir Nicic told Radio kontakt plus that Serbian language in accordance with the Kosovo laws has equal status as Albanian, however in practice the Serbian language is in unenviable condition, since the Law on Use of Languages in not respected.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Communities and Return Dalibor Jevtic said that the implementation of the Law was the key to solving the problem of equal language use in Kosovo. Jevtic stressed that for the first time there was a full commitment of the Government of Kosovo to solve the issue of equal use of languages in a quality way, reported Kontakt plus radio.

Each year, on 26 September, the European Day of Languages is celebrated on the initiative of the Council of Europe. The law on bilingualism in Kosovo is not respected consistently, and the websites of official institutions are often full of nonsense, reports KIM radio.

Most of central institutions in Pristina send invitations and announcements exclusively in Albanian language to Serbian media in Kosovo, thereby violating the Law on Use of Languages, according to which the Serbian language is one of the two official languages. Most of the documents issued by different departments are in incorrectly written Serbian language.
