Kosovo Police Director Shpend Maxhuni said in a meeting of the Assembly’s commission on security that Kosovo is not a producer of religious extremism but a target. He also spoke about the need to investigate exact activity of certain non-governmental organisations in Kosovo. Maxhuni said that according to police information, there are 300 persons from Kosovo fighting alongside IS in Syria.
Kosovo’s Interior Affairs Minister Skender Hyseni commented today on suspected plans to carry out terror attacks in Badovc Lake. “It is neither fair nor politically correct to comment on the case while the prosecution is conducting its investigation,” Hyseni said. He added that the Kosovo government and law enforcement authorities have no information over potential serious threats coming from terror groups that are affiliated with ISIS. He however called on the special units to stand ready to respond to any situation.
Kosovo police have arrested Sulejman Osmani, suspected of involvement in the two-day shootout in Kumanovo, Macedonia, in May, and wanted by the authorities in Macedonia.
Kosovo Police arrested Sulejman Osmani, aka "Commander Sula", on Tuesday, acting on an arrest warrant issued by the Macedonian police.
Osmani is suspected of having taken part in an armed battle in May against Macedonian special police in a densely populated outskirt of the town of Kumanovo.
Kosovo Police and OSCE mission in Kosovo are hosts to a regional conference in Pristina that is to take place today. The conference is about community policing and efficient use of security forums in communities. International community policing and public safety experts will share their experiences with representatives from Belgrade, Podgorica, Pristina, Skopje, Tirana and Zagreb as well as representatives of institutions and civil society.
Kosovo’s security institutions have received information that people close to Lavdrim Muhaxheri, the leader of Albanians fighting for ISIS, have ordered their people in Kosovo and the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia to carry out terror attacks in Pristina and Skopje. The news site claims to possess the communication between top security officials in Kosovo ordering the Kosovo Police to undertake all necessary measures to respond to such threats.
Citing a report published by Skopje-based newspaper Vecer, the news site reports that the Albanian Intelligence Service (SHISH) was aware of the armed group and the attack that was carried out in Kumanovo, in the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. The newspaper reports that the Kosovo Police and the Kosovo Intelligence Agency (AKI) were also aware about the activities of this group. The armed group was reportedly being investigated by four intelligence services, including SHISH. The latter passed on information to the Kosovo authorities, but not to FYROM.
The Kosovo Police in Mitrovica arrested three Albanian youths on Wednesday evening. Unidentified sources told the news site that the youths were planning to replace the Serbian flag with an Albanian flag on the Mitrovica castle. Police seized arms and Albanian and Serbian flags from the suspects. A Kosovo Police spokesperson, who confirmed the information, appealed to all citizens, especially to parents of youths, to watch out for any action that can cause tensions or threaten the security situation and people’s lives.
Kosovo Police has launched a search operation this morning in the homes of the persons involved in the recent events in Kumanovo, FYROM. Homes were searched in Decan and Pristina but no family member was interviewed.
The Kosovo Police on Friday arrested four individuals in Strpce. The arrest was confirmed by KP spokesperson for the Ferizaj/Urosevac region, Agim Gashi. "Four people were arrested in Strpce on the suspicion of causing general danger, threats and illegal possession of weapons," said Gashi.
Two Vetevendosje activists, detained by the police last night, have been released. Kosovo Police spokesperson, Baki Kelani, said the activists were detained under an order issued by the Pristina Basic Court.
