AAK condemns attack on RTK, says it was a premeditated act (Koha)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) said the attack on RTK premises on Monday evening was a criminal act “and above all premeditated to create an unstable situation that will not serve anyone’s interests”. “This despicable act was an attack against the freedom of the media which is the foundation of every democracy. The recent attacks, including the one against RTK last night, highlight the urgency for mobilisation of law enforcement and judicial authorities to resolve these cases and to bring those responsible to justice.

Hyseni: Kosovo praised for preventing extremism (Koha)

Kosovo’s Interior Minister, Skender Hyseni, during a visit to the municipality of Gjilan/Gnjilane today, said that within the last year, Kosovo was praised for fighting terrorism and preventing extremism.  “It has been eleven months now since someone from Kosovo went to Syria. The decline of this phenomenon should not make us comfortable in this direction and we have to be careful in this regard. Extremism and radicalism are treacherous diseases. Islam is peaceful and does not produce violence.

Kosovo extradites ex-priest Lawrence Soper to UK (media)

A former Catholic priest accused of a string of historical sex offences has been returned to Britain from Kosovo after a five-year police hunt. Lawrence Soper, 72, was arrested at Luton Airport on Sunday on suspicion of nine offences of sexual assault committed over a period from 1972 to 1986. In Kosovo, he was arrested on 12 May, years after Interpol issued an arrest warrant against him on suspicion of child sex offences.

 

Biden: Kosovo to move forward with demarcation and Association (media)

The U.S. Vice President Joe Biden during his official visit to Kosovo told a press conference on Wednesday that Kosovo must ratify the border-demarcation agreement with Montenegro and establish the Association/Community of Serb-majority municipalities. Otherwise, he said, Kosovo would lose the support of the US if it doesn’t fulfill these two agreements. “The agreement on border-demarcation with Montenegro is a fair deal and will have a positive impact on the region,” Biden said.

Tahiri: We only discussed telecom, Djuric is lying about the Association (Koha)

The Kosovo delegation, led by Minister and chief negotiator Edita Tahiri, and including representatives of ARKEP and mobile telephony operators, attended a meeting in Brussels on the issue of the telecom. The meeting, which lasted 20 hours, focused on the final steps for the ITU to give the state telephone code 383 to Kosovo.

“Demarcation in full compliance with Peja’s local development strategy” (media)

Kosovo government commission on border-demarcation with Montenegro has published a press statement saying that the demarcation with Montenegro is in full compliance with Peja/Pec’s local development strategy. “The amount of municipal areas comprises the total surface of Kosovo. The administrative boundary lines between municipalities of Junik, Decan, Peja and Istog in Kosovo and municipalities Plave, Beran and Rozaje in Montenegro were and also are the boundary line between Kosovo and Montenegro in the entire period from 1974 to 2015.

Çaushi: Situation in Kosovo will not be quiet, our actions will be radicalized (Koha)

The Vetëvendosje Movement MP, Driton Çaushi, during an interview for KTV said the situation in Kosovo will not remain quiet if the government does not annul the border-demarcation agreement with Montenegro.  “The situation will not remain quiet, our actions will be radicalized. The responsibility will be with the government of Kosovo,” he said.  Çaushi is currently serving 30 days house arrest for releasing teargas inside the Kosovo Assembly building.

“Demarcation has not changed the Kosovo flag” (Koha)

The State Commission for Demarcation and Maintenance of the State Border refutes completely what it called the untruth published by Shpejtim Bulliqi, who claimed that “the current demarcation changes the map of Kosovo on the state flag.”

The press release says that the Commission states with full responsibility that this statement is false, unprofessional, with maps drawn based on free will and not based on any valid legal map, document and the reality on the ground.

EULEX will not monitor Customs any more (Koha)

On the occasion of the conclusion of the supervision and monitoring of the Kosovo Customs, the Customs director, Lulëzim Rafuna and Acting EULEX Chief, held a press conference, where they assessed that supervision of the Customs by foreign missions since 1999, ends today, but cooperation with EULEX on management of the integrated borders will continue in the future.

Rafuna expressed appreciation to the EULEX mission as well as to the U.S. people who made many investments on Customs with their tax money.

LDK calls its “rebels” AAK spokespeople (Koha)   

The leadership of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), and leaders of the branches of this party, have issued a press release which accuses some of its MPs and members of the party for heralding against the voting (on demarcation of the border with Montenegro) at the Assembly. According to the press release, those MPs and members are spokespeople of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK).
