The role of the NGO sector in northern Kosovo is significant and it is one of the biggest local employers, was said during the debate that was organized in Mitrovica's social club, by the NGO "Aktiv". As stated, at this point the NGO sector in the north of Kosovo has between 6 and 10 million euros while 2,000 people were involved in the civil sector from 1999 until today.

A house of returnee in Osojane ransacked (KIM Radio, Kontakt Plus radio)

Minister for Communities and Returns in the Kosovo government Dalibor Jevtic said today that in Osojane, Istok/Istog municipality, a returnee family house was ransacked.

Jevtic told Kontakt plus radio that the house was ransacked during the Christmas holidays and the family was not in it.

Last month, in the same village, was ransacked house of the local priest.

Church of St. Demetrius in Susica ransacked (KIM radio, Kontakt plus radio, Tanjug)

Unknown perpetrators ransacked the Church of St. Demetrius on Monday, in the village of Susica near Pristina.

A member of the church council noticed that a window of the church had been broken and that the box with donations was stolen.

The Eparchy of Raska and Prizren reported the incident to the police.

UNMIK concerned over violence on the protests in Pristina (B92, Kontakt plus, RTK2)

The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) voiced concern on Saturday about the violence observed at the protests in Pristina's city center, during which Molotov cocktails, stones and other objects were thrown at the government building and police.

“Such acts by certain individuals have no place in a democratic society and have nothing to do with the legitimate right to peaceful protest expressed by many others,” UNMIK said in a release.

Patriarch sends message for Orthodox Christmas (Kontakt plus radio)

With the traditional greeting, “Peace of God - Christ is born," Patriarch Irinej has congratulated the upcoming Christmas holiday.

In Serbia, Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas on January 7.

The Patriarch's message was that "we should not allow anyone to divide us on any grounds."

Today, more than ever, Irinej wrote, we need peace in the world and goodwill among peoples.

Djuric on Christmas Eve in the church of Saint Demetrius in Mitrovica (Kontakt plus radio)

Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Djuric will attend tomorrow, on Christmas Eve, the evening worship in the church of Saint Demetrius in Mitrovica that will serve the Bishop of Raska-Prizren and Kosovo-Metohija Theodosius.

It is planned that Djuric on Thursday attends Christmas liturgy in Visoki Decani.

 

Petition for elections in the north (Kontakt plus radio)

Last night in Mitrovica, the Patriotic Block has started with signing of the petition which will be forwarded to the Assembly of Serbia, the Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic and President of Serbia Tomislav Nikolic, in order to organize local elections in northern Kosovo. The Patriotic Bloc was made up of parties Dveri and the Democratic Party of Serbia, as well as the group of most prominent Serbian intellectuals.

For the Serbian Orthodox Church in Kosovo status of Vatican? (Radio Kontact Plus)

President Tomislav Nikolic and Patriarch Irinej discussed at the Patriarchy the possibility to propose Vatican model for the position of the Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC) in Kosovo. They met in the midst of preparing for the resumption of dialogue with Pristina, since Serbian negotiating team announced intention of the government to nominate the issue of the status of the SPC and its assets in Kosovo, within the new round of talks.

Jaksic: Assembly of Serbia is obliged to call local elections in Kosovo; petition begins next week (Radio Kontakt Plus)

Patriotic Bloc will initiate signing of the petition for organizing local elections in Kosovo on Tuesday 29 December, in the premises of the restaurant North City in Mitrovica North. After collecting signatures, petition will be submitted to the Assembly of Serbia.   On that occasion, guests will be President of Democratic Party of Serbia (DSS) Sanda Raskovic Ivic and president of movement Dveri Bosko Obradovic, told a former MP and senior official of DSS Marko Jaksic. "We expect to collect 20,000 to 30,000 signatures.
