Kuci: Let’s lower the tensions (Bota Sot)

The deputy leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Hajredin Kuci, stated in an interview for Gazeta Blic that the agreement reached between the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), and the Initiative, is merely an example of post-election adrenaline. According to him, the Constitution of Kosovo clearly states that the mandate to create the new government belongs to the party which won the majority of votes. He added that the PDK is ready to respect any decision of the Constitutional Court.

New Assembly could be dissolved after first session (Tribuna)

The paper on the front page reports that the new Kosovo Assembly could have the shortest lifespan imaginable, as it is likely to be dissolved after just one session when it comes to the election of the speaker. PDK to go to court if not allowed to nominate Prime Minister (Koha)

Hajredin Kuci, deputy leader of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), said on Wednesday that if President Atifete Jahjaga will nominate a candidate for prime minister from outside the PDK, the latter will raise the case with the Constitutional Court. Kuci said the PDK would then respect whatever decision the Constitutional Court makes. “According to the Constitution of Kosovo, the candidate for prime minister belongs to the winning party. After the certification of results, we will start working on forming coalitions,” Kuci added.

Bajrami: We are forming the government or going into elections (Epoka e Re)

The Deputy Head of the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), Arsim Bajrami, said the opposition’s agreement on forming the government is unconstitutional and a disappointing act by the opposition, which lost the parliamentary elections. In Kosovo, the government is always formed by the party that won the elections in the first and second round. Points 1 and 4 of article 95 of the Constitution give the mandate for the formation of the government to the party or the pre-election coalition that won the elections, said Bajrami.

US supports any democratic government (Zeri)

The United States will cooperate with any government that comes out of free, fair and transparent elections, said the US Embassy in Pristina regarding the decision of opposition leaders to come together in a coalition and prevent the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) from forming a government. According to US Embassy officials, internal political strategies and discussions on possible coalitions are issues that should be decided by Kosovo leaders. They also noted that the US expects the new government to be formed in accordance with the Kosovo constitution and laws.

Contradictory interpretations over candidate for prime minister (Koha)

The paper reports on the front page that the Constitution of Kosovo fails to specify who shall be the candidate for prime minister in the event that none of the parties receives more than 50 percent of the votes. There are currently three interpretations about the way President Atifete Jahjaga ought to propose the candidate for prime minister.
