Kadaj-Bujupi: There will be resistance and protests (KlanKosova)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) parliamentary group chief, Donika Kadaj-Bujupi, said that the actions of the opposition parties yesterday were the only way to stop the degradation that is being done to Kosovo.  “It was the only way to interrupt the session which the ruling parties claimed it was a regular session.  Our goal was not to confront the MPs, but for the Assembly not to turn into an arena where deals against Kosovo are being made,” Kadaj-Bujupi said. “We will not step back.

Opposition throws teargas in Assembly (all media)

Opposition MP from Vetevendosje Albin Kurti Kurti threw teargas today in the Assembly in an effort to try and prevent the ruling coalition MPs from passing legislation. Earlier in the day, the opposition MPs used whistles to prevent the session and failing to do so, Kurti resorted to teargas.  Several MPs sought medical attention from the teargas exposure while the opposition pledged to continue blocking the work of the Assembly until the government leaders withdraw their signatures in the agreement with Serbia establishing the Association/Community of Serb majority municipalities.

Beqiri: Teargas in the Assembly is not democracy (Koha)

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) parliamentary group chief, Ismet Beqiri, told KTV that throwing teargas in today’s session of the Kosovo Assembly has nothing to do with democracy. Beqiri recalled that it was Serbian police and army that once used teargas and bullets against Albanians. He also said that there were other democratic means for the opposition to achieve its political objectives, not through teargas.

President Jahjaga condemns actions that stopped Assembly’s work (Telegrafi)

The Office of the President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, issued a reaction saying that today’s actions by opposition MPs were against democracy. “President Jahjaga calls on all members of the Kosovo Assembly to distance themselves from violence, to respect institutions that have been built with tremendous effort and sacrifice, including the personal sacrifice of the MPs.

Opposition issues joint statement on Assembly events (media)

The opposition bloc, consisting of the Vetevendosje Movement, Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), issued a joint statement on today’s events at the Kosovo Assembly.

“The Government of the Republic of Kosovo is ruining and bankrupting the state, by formalizing and legalizing Serbia’s power within the territory and institutions of Kosovo. This will destroy the Republic, the sovereignty and territorial integrity, and the wellbeing of the people. No one has the mandate or right to return Serbia to Kosovo. We will not allow this to happen.

LDK: Opposition should give up blocking of Assembly (Telegrafi)

The Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) has expressed deep concern over the events that happened at the Assembly of Kosovo today. In a statement, the second-largest party said “such violence undermines the vital interests of the people and the state of Kosovo.” The opposition should therefore give up attempts to forcefully block the Assembly. “LDK supports the majority MPs who in a calm and dignified manner faced the violence against them,” reads the statement.

Government regrets opposition’s violence in the Assembly (Koha)

The Government of the Republic of Kosovo issued a media statement expressing regret over the violence used by a group of opposition MPs in today’s session of the Assembly. “Despite the extreme conditions created by the violence caused by this group of opposition MPs, thanks to the determination and democratic commitment of the parliamentarian majority, the Assembly today adopted several laws that are important for the lives of citizens.
