The EULEX mission did not come to Kosovo to magically solve every problem, mission chief Alexandra Papadopulou told the Beta news agency on Wednesday.

“The EULEX mission was not deployed here to solve all of Kosovo’s problems in rule of law with a magic wand in just a couple of years. We should have made that clearer from the start, we should have managed local expectations better,” she said.

Papadopuolou said the role of the mission was to implement a multi-ethnic, transparent and independent rule of law system free from political interference.

On 8 June 2018, the Council decided to refocus the mandate of the EU rule of law mission EULEX Kosovo.

The mission, established 10 years ago, has had two operational objectives: a monitoring, mentoring and advising objective, providing support to Kosovo’s rule of law institutions and to the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, and an executive objective, supporting the adjudication of constitutional and civil justice and prosecuting and adjudicating selected criminal cases.

While the departure of EULEX Mission from Kosovo seriously endangers security of Serbs in Kosovo, President Aleksandar Vucic is serving to the citizens a story on referendum, Peoples’ Party said in a press statement, Danas daily reported.

The Party further said that Vucic is fabricating a false conflict with NATO Alliance, and without any evidence wages dirty war against opposition parties, in particular against Peoples’ Party, obviously being afraid citizens in Serbia could hear a truth about a failure of his politics.

Assembly of European Federation of Journalists unanimously adopted Resolution on investigation of murders of journalists in Kosovo, submitted by Association of Journalists of Serbia, Association of Independent Journalists of Serbia, Union of Journalists of Serbia and Association of Journalists of Kosovo, Serbian media reported.

Beta news agency reported today Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said he was not optimistic about the upcoming talks with Pristina representatives in Brussels, but that Belgrade would not give up on dialogue, since talks are the only solution towards a compromise.

“The talks in Brussels are ahead of us. I am not an optimist, but Serbs will make efforts to reach a compromise,” Vucic told reporters at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts after the opening of a two-day international conference of the anti-corruption portal “Pistaljka/Whistle”.

US Ambassador to Serbia, Kyle Scott commenting on EULEX departure from Kosovo and Metohija, said there are other ways to protect the Serbian people there, since KFOR and Kosovo police would remain, Tanjug news agency reported.

The party of the assassinated Kosovo Serb leader Oliver Ivanovic, the Civic Initiative SDP, urged today all investigative services and especially the EULEX, to intensify the probe into the January 16 murder.

In a statement, they appealed to both Belgrade and Pristina institutions “to use their authority and not allow that the perpetrators remain anonymous and unpunished.”

There are at least five bodies discovered over the last three weeks nearby Djakovica town, however, their number could be higher, Serbian media reported.

Chairperson of the Missing Persons Commission, Veljko Odalovic said there is reasonable doubt that these bodies belong to people listed as missing Serbs from Kosovo.

Odalovic told Politika daily that international forensics and anthropologists are working on identification of the mortal remains and it is expected identity of these people would be known soon.

Chairman of the Assembly Committee for Kosovo and Metohija Milovan Drecun told RTS that if an agreement is reached with Pristina, which will regulate the final status of Kosovo, it will be necessary for Serbia's citizens to declare on it. He points out that EULEX ending its mission ''in the southern Serbian province on June 14, will further destabilize the Serb people''.

EULEX Mission stated it has received a request from the Serbian authorities in November last year to arrest Radomir Laban, who has been appointed by the Kosovo Assembly as a Constitutional Court judge, but the Mission given its current mandate cannot undertake such action, Serbian media reported.

EULEX added they have informed Basic Court in Kraljevo, which requested their assistance about this fact.
