European Union foreign ministers on Tuesday called the Kosovo government to immediately revoke the 100 percent tariffs imposed on goods from Serbia and Bosnia Herzegovina, adding that Belgrade and Pristina have to implement all agreements reached in the EU-facilitated dialogue.
Leader of the opposition People's Party Vuk Jeremic said, while visiting the village Pasjane on Saturday that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic must not be allowed to make a "demarcation" deal which would be equal to recognizing Kosovo as an independent state, reported Kontakt plus radio.
According to the party's press release, Jeremic made the statement while meeting with the residents of the village of Pasjane, Gnjilane region.
Damon Wilson, executive vice president at the Atlantic Council, told N1 that the world was moving on fast and it was really "in the interest of Serbia and Kosovo to close that chapter so that they can compete in the future otherwise their populations are going to vote with their feet and leave" their countries.
Even though the paving of a road in the Decani gorge –which leads to the mountains of this municipality and the border with Montenegro and partly passes through a special protected zone – was stopped in May last year, the Decani municipal authorities continued with the road construction.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called US President Donald Trump to convince the Kosovo authorities to revoke the 100 percent tariffs on Serbian goods, the president’s press service said on Friday.
“I am asking you to convince Pristina to revoke its harmful tariffs on goods produced in central Serbia so that the dialogue to find a compromise, mutually acceptable solution can be continued,” Vucic wrote in a message to Trump on the US president’s birthday.
The Kosovo Specialist Prosecutor’s Office said on Thursday that Harvard Law School Professor Alex Whiting had been appointed its Head of Investigations.
“Whiting, 54, is a prosecutor of French and US nationality with extensive experience of both domestic and international prosecutions, including stints at both the International Criminal Court (ICC) and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), as well as a distinguished academic career,” a press release said.
Belgrade based daily Danas reports that US diplomat Matthew Palmer called the Serbian opposition to participate in the next parliamentary elections, quoting unnamed diplomatic sources.
Danas reports that Palmer told the opposition leaders that Washington does not agree with a possible boycott of elections because that would violate democratic principles.
The Kosovo authorities marked the 20th anniversary of the withdrawal of Serbian security forces at an event in central Pristina which was attended by former US officials and NATO commanders, while Director of the office for KiM Marko Djuric, a Belgrade official described the event as "the dance of the vampires," the Beta news agency reported.
Belgrade based daily Blic writes today that framework could be formulated for resolving the Kosovo problem at the meeting of the region's leaders with Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron in Paris on July 1.
According to the daily, the final proposal should be harmonized by the end of the year.
If such a scenario comes up, Blic writes, a referendum on Kosovo could be held together with regular parliamentary elections in the spring of next year.
Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met in New York with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, reports Serbian state broadcaster RTS.
Dacic met with Guterres after the UN Security Council session on Kosovo.
Dacic told state news agency Tanjug that that the UN Secretary General was fully informed about the situation in Kosovo.
