Draft Civil Code Phase II presented in Gracanica (RTK2)

The Kosovo Ministry of Justice, within the framework of completing legal infrastructure in the field of justice, presented in Gracanica the "Civil Code Phase 2", which aims to finalize a comprehensive modern code that meets European standards, reported RTK2.

The EU invested more than 2.3 million euros in this project, which continues to provide assistance in aligning Kosovo's legislation with European standards and strengthening the rule of law.

Ministry of Justice claims criminal code changes are taken from German law (RTK)

In a statement to the media, Kosovo’s Ministry of Justice has clarified that the proposed provisions to the Criminal Code of Kosovo regarding offenses against state symbols have been taken from the German legislation which is known as a country with highest standards of human rights safeguards. Furthermore, said the Ministry of Justice, offenses against constitutional authorities are also sanctioned in other EU countries like France, Italy, Poland, Greece, Lithuania, Slovenia.

“Kosovo automatically inherited property of Yugoslavia and Serbia” (RTK)

Kosovo’s Ministry of Justice has issued a press release specifying that the decision of the government of Kosovo to register as its own the immovable property originally registered under former Yugoslavia and Serbia is based on the Constitution of Kosovo and declaration of Kosovo’s independence.  “As an independent country and based on international law rules, Republic of Kosovo has automatically inherited ownership over Yugoslavia and Serbia state property as stipulated in the decision of the Republic of Kosovo Government.

French court handling Haradinaj case has "more questions" (B92)

The Justice Ministry has received additional questions from an appeals court in France which is deciding on a Serbian extradition request for Ramush Haradinaj.

The court in the town of Colmar is seeking clarification of legal provisions relating to the crimes Serbia is charging Haradinaj with.

The court has asked to receive a reply by the end of March at the latest, considering that a new hearing has been scheduled for April 6.

The Serbian Justice Ministry forwarded the Court of Appeal in France two days ago additional documents regarding the request for extradition of Ramush Haradinaj, Tanjug learned from the Ministry of Justice.

Documentation of over 100 pages forwarded to the French court at the initiative of the Ministry of Justice.

Four correctional service staff suspended in Dehari's case (media)

The Ministry of Justice issued a press release saying its inspectorate identified “procedural negligence” on the part of Prizren detention facility staff in dealing with the death of Vetevendosje activist, Astrit Dehari, but did not find any action by the prison staff that could have caused his death. As a result of these findings, the ministry has initiated disciplinary procedures against three correctional service officials as well as the acting director, all of whom have been suspended.
