Kosovo Assembly to vote on border demarcation agreement on 1 September (RTK)

The agreement on border demarcation with Montenegro will be put up for vote before the Kosovo legislators on 1 September, decided the Kosovo Assembly presidency in today’s meeting. Although the agreement was expected to be voted by the MPs this week, the presidency decided to give more time to the ruling and opposition parties to reach a consensus.

Kosovo court refuses extradition of British priest accused of child sex abuse (RTK)  

The Basic Court in the city of Peja/Peć has once again refused the extradition of Lawrence Soper, a former British priest. Soper, known in Kosovo as Andrew Charles, was arrested on 12 May years after Interpol issued an arrest warrant against him on suspicion of child sex offences. The court refused the extradition request citing statutes of limitation.

Rrustem Mustafa – Remi released on bail (RTK)

The request of the former KLA commander of Llapi operative zone, and former MP of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, Rrustem Mustafa, for release on bail, was approved. “Rrustem Mustafa will be released on 14 July 2016 and he will be under supervision of Kosovo’s Probation Service until 1 April 2017,” is written in the verdict of the Panel for release on bail, with Emine Kqiku, head of the panel and Sevdije Morina and Muhamet Berisha, members of the panel.

Border demarcation debate set for 3 August (RTK)

President of the Kosovo Assembly, Kadri Veseli, said today that the presidency has decided to call a round table on the issue of border demarcation with Montenegro on 3 August. Veseli said the round table as well as the debate on the matter should have taken place much sooner but, “better late than never.” “It is in our interest to protect the territory of Kosovo,” said Veseli further. At the same time, the regular plenary session of the Assembly has been scheduled to take place a day after the debate, on 4 August.

Haradinaj: I am confident on a rightful solution with Montenegro’s assistance (RTK)

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), said today he is confident that Montenegro will contribute to a rightful solution of the border demarcation issue. Haradinaj also thanked the Albanian community living in the U.S. for their reaction toward the demarcation deal. “I would like to thank all Albanians living in the United States, for opposing the current version of the border-demarcation deal with Montenegro.

Association of Journalists of Serbia (UNS) and Association of Journalists of Kosovo and Metohija (DNKiM) have requested responsibility of those who violated the law in relation with the election of the director of the Radio Television Kosovo channel in the Serbian language.

Thaçi: We have established a good tradition of cooperation with EULEX (media)

The President of Kosovo Hashim Thaçi, met today with the new Acting Head of EULEX Mission in Kosovo, Bernd Thran, with whom he discussed the cooperation between Kosovo institutions and EULEX after the adoption of the new law and the restructuring of the mission.

“We have established a good tradition of cooperation”, Thaçi said, adding that the cooperation shall continue.

AAK and NISMA agree to be part of demarcation committee (RTK)

The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA) said today they will agree to be part of a committee that would review the border demarcation agreement with Montenegro, only if the government dismisses the current committee led by Murat Meha. NISMA representatives told Radio Kosova today that they are willing to contribute to the stabilization of the political situation, “but the government too needs to reflect so that political normality can be restored”.
