Isa Mustafa, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), was elected as the new Assembly Speaker of Kosovo. 65 deputies (out of 82 present) voted for him at the session. His election took place despite the absence of deputies from the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK), who had left the session in an attempt to make the election impossible. However, LDK deputies, as well as those from the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), Vetevendosje movement, and parties representing ethnic minorities, were present.

Ramush Haradinaj, leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), said today that President Atifete Jahjaga cannot interfere and ask the Constitutional Court to rule on the post of Assembly Speaker. “This situation is different from the candidate for Prime Minister and she cannot do this now. 40 MPs can now send this case to the Constitutional Court,” said Haradinaj, who is the opposition’s candidate for the post of prime minister. Haradinaj called on all political parties to show a political and democratic culture at tomorrow’s constitutive session of the Assembly.

No agreement was reached in today’s meeting between leaders of the Vetevendosje Movement, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA). Vetevendosje leader Albin Kurti said there have been setbacks from earlier agreements. “There is discordance from earlier positions of the Vetevendosje Movement and the LDK-AAK-NISMA coalition. These are mainly related to dialogue with Serbia, the process of privatization and other issues,” Kurti told reporters after the meeting.

Mustafa: Procedures for a joint parliamentary group end tomorrow (gazetablic)

Isa Mustafa, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), gathered today his deputies to discuss formation of the joint parliamentary group with the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) and the Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA). Mustafa stated that the procedures for a joint parliamentary group of the three political parties will conclude tomorrow.

He said that unification of political parties into one parliamentary group is allowed by regulation procedures of the Assembly as well as the Law.

The meeting between the leader of Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Isa Mustafa, that of Alliance for Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, leader of Initiative for Kosovo (NISMA), Fatmir Limaj and of Vetevendosje, Albin Kurti.

The meeting is said to have focused on issues relating to the constitution of the Kosovo Assenbly and the priorities that the future Government of Kosovo should have.

The host of the meeting, Albin Kurti, said that positions of parties are being increasingly bridged and that they will be finalized by the time the Assembly of Kosovo is formed.

Mustafa: We have the right to create a joint parliamentary group (gazetablic)

Leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK,) Isa Mustafa, stated after the meeting with Ramush Haradinaj and Fatmir Limaj that they have the right to create a joint parliamentary group which would allow them to gain the position of the Assembly Speaker.   “We have the right to create the joint parliamentary group, and we will do this,” he said.
