The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) considers today’s inauguration ceremony of the new President of Kosovo Hashim Thaci to be yet another circus. The AAK claims Thaci is a synonym of “the capture of the state”. “His election can only lead to the recycling of the catastrophic situation the country is in,” the AAK says.
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) announced its MPs will not take part in today’s swearing in ceremony for Hashim Thaci as the new president of Kosovo. Furthermore, in a symbolic action, the party’s activists last night put up posters in Pristina against Thaci becoming president of Kosovo. The posters carry slogans claiming Thaci is not a unifying figure and a far cry from what a true head of state should be.
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) issued a statement regarding the recent media reports that it is ready to join the government coalition between the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK). “The AAK has no plans on entering this government,” said the party adding that none of its officials, including the leader Ramush Haradinaj, had talks with the ruling parties on becoming part of the government.
Kosovo’s Prime Minister and leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), Isa Mustafa, said today that for the time being his party is not open to a coalition with the Ramush Haradinaj-led Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK). “Maybe this can happen after the general elections in 2018,” Mustafa said during a visit to Klina municipality.
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), through a press release today reacted against the decision of the Constitutional Court to declare as inadmissible the opposition’s request to contest the election of Hashim Thaci as Kosovo President. “We consider that Hashim Thaci does not meet the main criteria for the country’s president, who is to be a factor of unity. We also consider that Thaci’s election was not in accordance with the Kosovo Constitution and we believe that today’s decision of the Constitutional Court was not fair,” notes the press release.
The leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo, Ramush Haradinaj, said in an interview for RTK, that he had addressed President Jahjaga regarding the demarcation of the border between Kosovo and Montenegro, convinced that there were violations during the process. According to him, “an urgent international investigation should take place.”
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK) MP, Ali Berisha, said today that the AAK will only return to Assembly to vote for the dissolution of the current Assembly. He also added that the three opposition parties have not yet set a date for the next anti-government protest.
The leader of the Initiative for Kosovo, Fatmir Limaj, will attend a meeting with international members of the Commission for Demarcation, established by President Atifete Jahjaga. Limaj’s presence was confirmed by Endrit Shala from Nisma.
The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, appealed today once again to the opposition parties to return to the Assembly and dialogue for the problems that concern them. During today’s meeting of the government, Mustafa said that certain opposition parties should give up violence and discourse that embeds hatred. “It is in the interest of the country for us to work, improve the lives of citizens. Pristina Mayor Shpend Ahmeti and the leader of the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, have announced today a coalition agreement between the two parties for the municipality of Pristina.
