Today in South Mitrovica begun signing of petition for the unification of Mitrovica (Kontakt plus radio)

Radio Kontakt Plus reports that today in South Mitrovica, at the proposal of Mayor Agim Bahtiri, signing of the petition for “unification” of Mitrovica has begun.

Bahtiri announced on Friday that he would launch the signing of a petition for the “unification” of Mitrovica together with the citizens of that municipality and that he hoped that the petition would be signed by Serbs from the northern part of the city.

North Mitrovica Mayor Goran Rakić said today that setting up the street names in the Albanian language in Suvi Do/Suhidoll was illegal and unacceptable, and he recalled that the municipality of Mitrovica North and South have not signed the memorandum on delimitation.

Rakić also said that the relevant ministries would put pressure on the South Mitrovica municipal authorities in order to stop these activities, which he has strongly condemned.

The agreement in Brussels envisage for the northern and southern Mitrovica to solve all their problems until 10 October, and most of them are in multi-ethnic villages of Suvi Do and Brđani, where it is difficult to draw the municipal boundary. As far as for Brdjani settlement, there should not be a problem, because it is clear to everyone that this settlement is in the municipalities of northern Mitrovica and Zvecan/Zveqan.

"I want to remind Mr Bahtiri that he pledged, in Brussels in the presence of representatives of the EU and the Director of the Office for Kosovo and Metohija, that the park will not be removed, until a solution is found with which will agree citizens of both municipalities," said Rakic.

Mayor of North Mitrovica, Goran Rakic reacted to a statement of Mayor of South Mitrovica, Agim Bahtiri that "Peace Park" soon would be removed, and went on saying that mayors have more important things to do than to make inflammatory statements.
