Serbia is considering possible arbitration because of Pristina violation of the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA), Prime Minister Ana Brnabic said on Thursday.

“At this moment, that is the only way to protect Serbia’s interests and have everyone who signed the agreement face the consequences in line with the contract they signed,” she told reporters at the 2nd Digital Summit in Belgrade.

The US ambassador to Serbia Kyle Scott told reporters on Tuesday the situation regarding the European Union-mediated Belgrade – Pristina dialogue on normalisation of relations was extremely complicated, but that there was no benefit from the two sides blaming each other, the Beta news agency reported.

The ambassador said it was necessary for both sides to sit down and normalise the dialogue.

“The US and the EU are steering both sides in that direction,” Scoot said.

President of the Serbian List, Goran Rakic says that the biggest support to the Kosovo Serbs was “a clear message” of the President of Serbia President Aleksandar Vucic who said he would not allow the expulsion of Serbs (from Kosovo).

Goran Rakic told the Belgrade based daily Politika that with help from Serbia, Kosovo would not experience a humanitarian catastrophe.

Kosovo has the highest unemployment rate in the Western Balkans, the World Bank and Vienna Institute for Internal Economic Studies said in a report published on Tuesday.

The report said that the overall unemployment rate in the region dropped from 16.2 to 15.3 percent. The unemployment rates range from 12 percent in Albania and Serbia to 29 percent in Kosovo.

"Children born (in Serbia) between 1999 and 2015 have been exposed to a toxic factor that caused them to be susceptible to malignant diseases."

An investigation by a commission set up to look into the consequences of NATO’s 1999 bombing of Serbia, presented on Tuesday, showed this.

The commission's president, Darko Laketic, told reporters at the Serbian National Assembly that this study focused only on children, because they are less exposed to other risk factors such as smoking.

Serbia’s Trade Minister Rasim Ljajic said on Tuesday the Central European Free Trade Agreement (CEFTA) of 2006 became debatable after Kosovo introduced the 100 percent import duties on goods from Serbia and requires a recovery to maintain, the Beta news agency reported.

Ljajic added Serbia was losing a million Euros per day due to Pristina's taxes introduced last November.

The Army of Serbia’s Chief-of-Staff General Milan Mojsilovic said on Tuesday that the situation in Kosovo was “extremely complex”, but that Belgrade did not consider any military option right now, the Beta news agency reported.

Speaking to the state RTS television, Mojsilovic described the situation in Kosovo as “full of tensions and unilateral moves.”

Serbia’s high-ranking officials met Patriarch Irinej on Sunday to inform him about the current situation in the country, which President Aleksandar Vucic assessed as “difficult.”

Besides President Vucic, the meeting was attended by Prime Minister Ana Brnabic and Foreign Affairs Minister Ivica Dacic.

The US does not consider that the ongoing talks between Serbia and Kosovo have anything to do with Bosnia, the newly appointed US Ambassador to Sarajevo, Eric Nelson, said on Thursday in his first press conference after taking office, N1 reported.

“The US position is clear that there is no parallel between the negotiations taking place between Serbia and Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina,” he said.

Albanian political analyst Azem Vllasi said that the annexation of the Presevo valley to Kosovo is not a realistic option.

Vllasi, a senior communist official in Kosovo during the 1980s, said that the annexation of that part of southern Serbia is something that everyone in Kosovo wants.

He told Pristina-based KTV that President Hashim Thaci’s insisting on the annexation of the Presevo valley is not a realistic option.
