EU won't set conditions it knows we won't fulfill (B92)

MP Milovan Drecun (SNS) says he "believes" that the EU will not set conditions before Serbia that it knows in advance the country "won't fulfill."

In a statement for reporters made in parliament on Thursday, Drecun, who chairs the Committee on Kosovo and Metohija, noted that five EU member-states have not recognized Kosovo, and that the process of normalization between Belgrade and Pritina has been unfolding within "a status-neutral framework - and so it will remain."

Slovakia "supports Serbia's EU bid, won't recognize Kosovo" (B92, Beta, Tanjug)

BRATISLAVA -- Slovakia is Serbia's true friend, whose experience can teach us a lot, Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday in Bratislava.

He made the statement as he met with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico.

Vucic told at a joint press conference with the Slovakian prime minister that Serbia's goal is full stabilization of the Balkans.

He said that Serbia will use some of the measures that the Slovakian government has successfully implemented with an eye to boosting economy.

Still unclear if ex-FM will run for top UN job (B92)

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon's second mandate will end next year, and his successor will be elected in the summer of 2016.

For now, it is known that the next UN chief will come from an Eastern European country.

The unofficial race has already begun, but the road to the top UN job is very long. In order to become a candidate, a hopeful must first obtain official endorsement of their country, followed by a long path through the maze of international lobbying.

EU integrations progress "depends on Kosovo talks" (B92)

 

BELGRADE -- Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic says Serbia's progress towards the EU "will depend on the assessment of whether there is progress in the dialogue with Pristina."

Speaking after his meeting in Belgrade with Italian Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni, he told reporters that "Serbia will fulfill all that was signed in the Brussels agreement and all that is envisaged by the plan of implementation - but cannot be held responsible if someone sets new conditions."

NATO has excellent cooperation with Serbia (Dailies)

NATO has excellent cooperation with Serbia, and respects its decision to not seek membership in the Alliance, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has said.

He made the remarks during his address to the European Parliament (EP) on Monday.

"Serbia is a sovereign country and has the right to make decisions regarding its future on its own," Stoltenberg told MEPs when Croatian MEP Tonino Picula asked him to comment on the joint exercises of the Serbian and Russian armed forces "close to the Croatian border."

Ex-military intel chief heads Kosovo talks coordination (B92)

 The Serbian government has appointed Dragan Vladisavljevic as acting director of the Office for Coordination Affairs in the negotiating process with Pristina.

Tweet Vladisavljevic was appointed on March 16, while the decision to set up the office was made on March 5.

Vladisaljevic holds the rank of brigadier-general and until January 2014 served as director of the Military-Intelligence Agency (VOA).

EU "ready to open first chapters this year" (Dailies)

EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini said in Belgrade on Friday that the organization she represents "sees Serbia's European future."

She stated that she was "ready for the first negotiating chapters to be opened this year."

"And my main message here is not only that Serbia is firmly on the path towards the European Union, but also that the Union is ready for the opening of negotiating chapters this year. It is of mutual importance," she during a joint news conference with Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic.

The establishment of direct contact between Aleksandar Vucic and Isa Mustafa was a “positive step," said EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini

Mogherini told a joint press conference with Kosovo Prime Minister Mustafa in Pristina that the agreements reached in the Brussels-based dialogue had to be implemented.

She also said she expected the Kosovo assembly to adopt a decision to set up a special court for war crimes.
