Isa Mustafa, leader of the biggest opposition party, the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), said today that political parties could meet next week and discuss the possible abolishment of parliament. Mustafa said the campaign by Prime Minister Hashim Thaci with state funds poses a threat to stability in the country.

Mustafa said Kosovo should go to early national elections as soon as possible because the current government has lost the power to lead the country. “We believe that the current situation in parliament requires quick changes and new elections, because the ruling coalition no longer has the majority in parliament. Therefore, the government lacks the power to govern Kosovo,” Mustafa told reporters in Pristina today.

“We would prefer for national elections to be held the latest by early June, not because we want this, but because Kosovo needs this; the country needs a legitimate government that will make sustainable decisions for Kosovo’s future.”

The LDK leader accused Prime Minister Thaci of using public funds for his campaign. “The behavior of the Prime Minister and his government show that this government has become a threat to itself; it is making irrational and irresponsible decisions for our future,” Mustafa added.
