Freedom also for murder suspects (unfortunately)! (Koha Ditore)

The paper’s columnist Enver Robelli, in an opinion piece today, criticizes Kosovo’s justice system for "arresting the Serb general Milovan Bojovic for illegally entering Kosovo territory and not for war crimes committed against K-Albanians during the conflict in 1999." “Bojojvic was sentenced to 30 days in prison for illegal border crossing. It is very likely that Bojovic will leave Kosovo soon without any problem. If  Kosovo had a good justice system, a war crimes indictment would already be in place for Bojovic,” Robelli writes.

The constitutional court contradicts itself, but not enough (Koha Ditore)

The paper runs an opinion piece by Andrea Lorenzo Capussela:

The constitutional court of 2016 has said that the constitutional court of 2011 was wrong. These are not the words one can read in the judgement that yesterday upheld Thaci’s election, but this is what they mean. For the court rejected the challenge against his election because it judged that the arguments of the opposition were plainly wrong, ‘manifestly unfounded’. But these were exactly the same arguments upon which in 2011 the court annulled Pacolli’s election.

Kosovo: A European future (Koha Ditore)

Joint Op-Ed by Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission and Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany.

Today marks a new beginning. For Kosovo, for the Balkans, for the whole of Europe. After four years of hard work – by both Kosovo and the European Union – the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between Kosovo and the EU enters into force.

Four EULEX vehicles damaged in Mitrovica (Koha Ditore)

Kosovo Police in Mitrovica declared today that four official EULEX vehicles were damaged during the night of 17 March, at around 00:30 hours, at the EULEX parking lot.

Kosovo Police visited the site and stressed that damages were made in the form of scratches and broken window glass. The case has been initiated and it is being investigated as “damage of property.”

New elections, more than necessary (Koha Ditore)

The paper’s columnist Halil Matoshi writes in an opinion piece that as soon as the special court for war crimes files the first indictments against the former KLA fighters, not only opposition and the citizens, but also the international community will pressure the government to announce early elections, no later than autumn this year. Matoshi further writes that the request of the Serbian List for a new Serb-majority municipality in Kosovo seems to be linked with Hashim Thaci’s election as Kosovo president.

One million euros for renovation of religious buildings in Lipjan (Koha Ditore)

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) representatives had a meeting yesterday with the leadership of the Municipality of Lipjan/Lipljan to discuss the UNDP project Confidence Building through Cultural Protection in Kosovo. On this occasion, Alexandra Meierhans from UNDP announced that the EU has allocated one million euros for this project. "Kosovo has a rich cultural and religious heritage, so through the implementation of this project we aim to support the renovation of religious buildings,” Meierhans said.

Kosovo has no political arguments to speed up the visa liberalization process (Koha Ditore)

The paper’s Brussels-based correspondent, Augustin Palokaj, writes in an opinion piece today that Kosovo has no political or moral power to seek favors from the EU. “The political elite in Kosovo doesn’t have the credibility to at least ask from the EU to be fair and correct towards Kosovo. With the high level of corruption and the failure of the justice system, political leaders cannot ask for such things. Therefore the process of visa liberalization is where it is with Kosovo, pending and without any specific dates when it might happen.

A narration for exit strategy (Koha Ditore)

Lumir Abdixhiku considers that Hashim Thaci’s election for president, comforted one individual while holding the fate of an entire country hostage. He says that political clashes in Kosovo have become so deep, that giving up would be perceived as a political weakness, mistake or defeat. On the other hand, he notes, international voices have started to show the first signs of some kind of mediation, “Public proposal of the German Ambassador for creation of a mediating commission, makes a good start,” writes Abdixhiku.
