Prizren NGO accuses Kosovo Central Bank of illegal construction in historic zone (Klan Kosova)

The Prizren-based NGO Ec Ma Ndryshe has accused the Kosovo Central Bank of carrying out construction works inside the city’s legally-protected historic zone. The NGO said no building permit has been issued by relevant authorities and warned that the lack of institutional coordination is undermining efforts for establishing law and order within Prizren’s historic zone.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary Hoyt: We are here to show support for Kosovo (Klan Kosova)

In an interview for Klan Kosova, the US Deputy Assistant Secretary for European and Eurasian Affairs Hoyt Yee said he was in Kosovo to show support for the new president Hashim Thaci and Kosovo. He said the inauguration ceremony for President Hashim Thaci is a good opportunity to meet Kosovo leadership. Speaking about normalization of Pristina-Belgrade relations, Hoyt said dialogue is one of the most important developments in the region and that it is the only way forward for both Kosovo and Serbia.

Mustafa: Opposition has no reason to protest over border demarcation (Klan Kosova)

Prime Minister of Kosovo Isa Mustafa said that the opposition parties have no reason to protest over border demarcation agreement with Montenegro following the findings of the ad-hoc commission that there were no irregularities in the process. Mustafa said the border demarcation agreement can now go to the Assembly of Kosovo for ratification.

The three international experts,  Fletcher Burton, Herbert Wilmes and Fred Newton will make public today their report on the borderline between Kosovo and Montenegro. The Office of the President of Kosovo, informed that the findings of the three-member team will be made public today at 17:30 hours at a press conference. The President of Kosovo, Atifete Jahjaga, will also participate at the press conference.

Population and household census in northern municipalities postponed (Klan Kosova)

In a meeting today, the government of Kosovo decided to postpone the population and household census in the four northern municipalities that did not participate in this process in 2011, for two weeks. Prime Minister Isa Mustafa said the decision is related to technical issues.

Mustafa: Trepca will not go to Brussels (Klan Kosova)

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, said at the press conference after today’s meeting of the government, that the government has approved the decision for establishment of the commission for Trepca draft law.

He said that the commission for Trepca will continuously report to the government about its work and according to him this is the first step towards the fulfillment of promises for the long term solution to Trepca’s statute.

Thaci says he plans to invite Nikolic to his swearing-in ceremony (Klan Kosova)

Kosovo’s president-elect Hashim Thaci said he plans to invite Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic to his swearing-in ceremony in April. “There will be a ceremony upon taking on the post of the President early April and I look forward to the invitation that I will send to President Nikolic. We will also invite other presidents of the region,” said Thaci in an interview for the Austrian paper Der Standard.

Meucci: Gender equality remains a challenge for Kosovo (Klan Kosova)

The head of the EU Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (EULEX), Gabriele Meucci, today on the occasion of International Women’s Day said this day serves as a reminder that gender equality remains a significant challenge worldwide, including in Kosovo. “I remain strongly supportive of all local and international women here in Kosovo as they strive to build an efficient and independent justice system providing equal access to justice for all.
