Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic is set to join President Aleksandar Vucic’s ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Belgrade-based daily Blic reports on Tuesday.
Brnabic told the daily she hopes the SNS would accept her, that she likes and respects the party and that she would discuss her membership with Vucic in the next few weeks.
Serbian President and ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) leader Aleksandar Vucic says no final decision has been made on holding parliamentary elections. Elections will take place either in June, or in the spring of 2020, Vucic announced late on Monday, after a meeting of his party's presidency, B92 reported.
He said that the final decision had not been made yesterday - "but we are closer to calling them than before." "The SNS presidency was in favor of elections, with one abstention - mine," Vucic noted.
If Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic decides that extraordinary elections would be held on 31 March, they would be called for on 30 January, latest by 14 February, one day prior to Serbia’s Statehood Day, Prva TV reports this morning.
However, if a decision is to have an election by mid-April, then they should be called for from 13th to 18th February. If elections are to take place, campaign according to this calculation, should start after Statehood Day (15 February), Prva TV continues, referring to the Serbian media reports.
Editor of BETA news agency, Dragan Janjic commenting on gathering of citizens to welcome Russian President Vladimir Putin in Belgrade yesterday, said it was a manifestation intended for domestic public, rather than for Putin. “This was a manifestation of power, while authorities want to present it as the manifestation of support,” Janjic said.
Attempts of Aleksandar Vucic to take the country out “from a desperate and inherited situation related to Kosovo and Metohija” lead to announcements of “dilettantes directly responsible for the current situation,” Vice President of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Main Board, Milenko Jovanov told Tanjug news agency.
President of the Social-Democratic Party (SDS), Boris Tadic told Serbian media that since Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) came into power, Serbia’s European path is not conditioned with the progress and level of achieved reforms, but with “the trade of the authorities, in which they are fulfilling requests related to Kosovo for the sake of an international applause and remain in power,” KiM Radio reported.
Tadic also said that during his presidential mandate, “political hardliners were in power” in Pristina so there was no much space for policy of reconciliation and compromise.
SNS leader and Aleksandar Vucic announced late on Wednesday that ruling party's presidency decided against holding early parliamentary elections.
After the session, Vucic, who is also Serbia's President, said the presidency of the ruling party voted "almost unanimously, with only two votes against - although "in the debate there was an equal number, or a few more people in favor of calling early parliamentary elections".
