Vecernje Novosti: Elections in Serbia to be called on 9th May, voting in June?

Another option "in the game" is to go to the polls on 30th June, and in this case the elections would be called on 16th May, writes today Belgrade based daily Vecernje Novosti.

If Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) goes with a decision to call the extraordinary parliamentary elections, most likely they will be called on May 9th, and the voting will take place on June 23rd, according to Vecernje Novosti.

SNS has 55 percent support, opposition alliance 11.8 – poll (Tanjug, B92)

Nearly 55 percent of voters would vote for the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) if parliamentary elections were held on Sunday, according to Faktor Plus's latest poll.

The opposition Alliance for Serbia (SzS) would receive 11.8 percent of the vote, and the Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) a member of the ruling coalition would get 10.1 percent, Tanjug is reporting from "the Political Barometer April 2019."

The opposition Movement of Free Citizens (PSG) would also win seats in the National Assembly with 5.4 percent of votes.

Koha: "Serb mayors to win in North Kosovo, and then resign again" (Serbian media)

Pristina based daily Koha Ditore writes that Kosovo President, Hashim Thaci announced that the Serbian List planed participation in the local elections called in the four northern Kosovo municipalities, Serbian media are quoting.

The Pristina daily says that the Serbian List will participate in elections for mayors in the four Serb majority municipalities - but that mayors elected this way "will resign immediately after election (results) have been confirmed."

Vucic: I told the Serbs to wait for the end of the talks in Berlin (Serbian media)

A meeting of President Aleksandar Vucic with representatives of the Kosovo Serbs was held in the Palace of Serbia. After the meeting, Vucic said in a press conference that he advised them to wait for talks in Berlin, where he will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron, reports Belgrade based news agency Beta.

"Apart from everything else, Pristina is doing some other things. They want to revoke the right of Serbs to an opinion," Vucic said.

Drecun: Pristina uses election to annul Serb majority will and additionaly raises tension (RTS, N1, Beta)

The head of the Parliamentary Committee for Kosovo Milovan Drecun said the decision to call local elections in the north of Kosovo was Pristina’s intention to void the majority's will of the Serbs and “to install” individuals from the Serb nation, the Beta news agency reported on Wednesday.

Speaking to the public service Radio Television of Serbia (RTS), Drecun said that “the situation among the Serbs could be complicated after this election and Pristina could use that as an excuse to intervene.”

Representatives of Serbs from Kosovo to meet with Vucic (B92, Tanjug)

President Aleksandar Vucic and Government Office for Kosovo and Metohija chief Marko Djuric will meet with political representatives of Serbs from Kosovo.

The meeting will be held at noon on Wednesday in the Palace of Serbia. Participants will then address the media, the president's press service said.

Janjic: Calling for a boycott of elections in northern Kosovo would be a risky move (Beta, Danas)

President of the Ethnic Relations Forum, Dusan Janjic says that the decision to call the elections for the presidents of the four municipalities in northern Kosovo is a deliberate political move based on the Kosovo election law, and at this moment it is difficult to predict how things will develop.

Janjic told Belgrade based news agency Beta that the first possibility is that this is part of a wider campaign of which Belgrade is notified and coordinated by US administration.

Blic: "Vucic is close to the decision on the elections"

Belgrade based daily Blic reports today that Serbia could have an early parliamentary election in the spring. Blic learns that the president of Serbia and the Serbian Progressive Party, Aleksandar Vucic, has talked with his associates and is getting closer to making such a decision.

Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic confirmed on Thursday he had a meeting with the closest party allies but would not say if the topics included early elections, adding that if there was a pressure that could happen, the Beta news agency reported.

Speaking to reporters at the side-lines of the Belgrade Security Forum conference, Vucic said he would not like to stay in power with the support of five-six percent of the voters, although the elections should be called in two years.
