Veseli welcomes Constitutional Court’s decision on Trepca Law (Koha)

Kosovo Assembly President Kadri Veseli today welcomed the Constitutional Court’s decision on Trepca Law. “I welcome the decision of the Constitutional Court, which confirms that Trepca Law is in compliance with the Constitution. Congratulations to miners and all Kosovo citizens,” Veseli said. The Constitutional Court today rejected the request of the Serbian List for review of the constitutionality of the Trepca Law which was approved a few weeks ago by the Assembly.

Mustafa accuses opposition of blocking visa liberalization (Koha/Klan Kosova)

Prime Minister of Kosovo, Isa Mustafa, accused opposition parties of “needlessly” blocking the visa liberalization process. He also said that Kosovo faced the largest number of conditions but has nevertheless made effort to meet all of them. “We want to be treated equally. With regards to the border demarcation criteria, we came to a situation whereby the opposition has used it to block the process. Therefore this condition needs to be reassessed,” said Mustafa today at the meeting of the National Council for European Integration headed by President, Hashim Thaci.

Hoxha: We sent a verbal note to Serbia about Thaci’s arrest (Koha)

Kosovo’s Justice Minister, Dhurata Hoxha, today while reporting to the Committee on Legislation, spoke about the arrest of the Kosovo Police regional director, Nehat Thaci, by Serbian authorities. Hoxha said that "the Ministry of Justice has sent a verbal note to Serbia about Thaci’s arrest.” She also said that there was a hearing session yesterday for Nehat Thaci, but that “the ministry has no information regarding this process.”

Braathu: We are all affected by extremism (Zeri)

The head of the OSCE Mission in Kosovo, Jan Braathu, said today in Pristina that no country in the world is completely immune to radicalism and extremism. However, according to him, everyone must work on prevention. “We are all affected,” Braathu said, adding that the OSCE, together with Kosovo institutions, is working in this direction. “The OSCE has a framework for the fight against terrorism and a department dedicated to this,” he said. The most recent report of the US State Department on human trafficking across the world categorized Kosovo as a source and destination country for men, women, and children subjected to sex trafficking and forced labor, including in the restaurant industry. It stated that most sex trafficking victims in Kosovo are girls and that they are subjected to sex trafficking in private homes and apartments, night clubs, and massage parlors.
