Seven months after the introduction of a 100 per cent tax on goods from central Serbia, due to the intensified control of the Kosovo police, food supplies are at the end.

Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia and Minister of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications Rasim Ljajic told Serbian state broadcaster that Serbia will internationally insist on the tax abolishment, adding that that situation with lack of supplies is an additional argument.

RTK2 reported on Saturday that the decision on tariffs imposed by the Government of Kosovo on products from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in November last year was still in force.

In the meantime, many international officials have called on authorities in Pristina to revoke this decision, and recently Head of the EU Office in Kosovo, Nataliya Apostolova, pointed out that Pristina has violated CEFTA and SAA agreements by a decision on tariffs, wrote RTK2.

According to the Belgrade daily daily Vecernje Novosti, in that "given framework", there will be room for possible "amendments".

This should speed up the closure of the Kosovo issue, according to Western leaders, reports the daily.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic called US President Donald Trump to convince the Kosovo authorities to revoke the 100 percent tariffs on Serbian goods, the president’s press service said on Friday.

“I am asking you to convince Pristina to revoke its harmful tariffs on goods produced in central Serbia so that the dialogue to find a compromise, mutually acceptable solution can be continued,” Vucic wrote in a message to Trump on the US president’s birthday.

US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Matthew Palmer said on Monday that Washington wants Pristina to revoke the 100 percent tariffs imposed on goods from Serbia so that both sides can return to negotiations and reach an agreement for the sake of the entire region, reported Beta news agency.

Speaking after a meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Palmer said that an agreement between Belgrade and Pristina would make the European future of Serbia and Kosovo and the Western Balkans region easier to achieve.

Serbia’s President asked German Chancellor Angela Merkel over the phone to help with breaking the deadlock in the dialogue between Pristina and Belgrade, Aleksandar Vucic’s office said on Saturday.

Serbia is completely committed to the dialogue which is facilitated by the European Union with the intention to reach a compromise, a solution that is acceptable to both sides and secures stability in the region, he told Merkel.

Foreign Minister Ivica Dacic met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in St Petersburg about the situation in Kosovo, prior to the June 10 session of the UN Security Council.

Dacic told reporters in St. Petersburg, where he is taking part in the International Economic Forum, that he introduced in detail the plan of Serbia on the issue of Kosovo to Lavrov, and that the head of Russian diplomacy told him that Moscow absolutely supported Serbia and that the support would be clearly expressed and at a session of the UN Security Council on Monday.
