Osmani: Why is UNMIK exercising competencies in Kosovo when we have EULEX (media)

Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) MP Vjosa Osmani asked during today’s session of the Kosovo Assembly why UNMIK is issuing international arrest warrants on Kosovo’s behalf given that EULEX operates in Kosovo. “Yesterday we saw media reports that UNMIK has issued 36 international arrest warrants on behalf of the Republic of Kosovo. The spokesman of this mission [UNMIK] confirmed this saying that the arrest warrants are valid and that they were issued by the INTERPOL liaison office within UNMIK.

Moscow Urges Kosovo to Implement Obligations Under Deal With Serbia (Sputnik)

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov on Tuesday called on Kosovo to implements obligations it had agreed to under the deal with Serbia, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Earlier in the day, Gatilov and UN Special Representative for Kosovo Zahir Tanin held a meeting to discuss the situation in Kosovo, the statement said.

Serbia to continue participating in UN peacekeeping ops (Dailies)

Aleksandar Vucic said on Wednesday Serbia would continue participation in UN peacekeeping operations under his new government. Director of the Serbian Government office for Kosovo and Metohija Marko Ɖurić will meet tomorrow at 12:30 pm, in the Palace "Serbia", with the Assistant Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Ghasem El-Wane. The meeting will be attended by the Special Representative of the UN Secretary General and head of UNMIK Zahir Tanin and representative of the UN Secretary General and the Director of the UN Office in Belgrade Simona - Mirela Miculesku, announced the Office for Kosovo and Metohija.

According to the budget proposal regarding the work of UNMIK in Kosovo, 3.5 million dollars less will be allocated this year. USA and UK are attempting to reduce the staff of the mission.

According to sources cited by the Belgrade newspaper, Večernje Novosti, Koha.net writes that the purpose is to abolish 20 jobs and empower the mission in the areas of human rights, support to communities and strengthen the role of UNMIK in the north of Kosovo.
